Background / History
Eriri met Hasegawa Izumi on their first day of elementary school, after learning that their mothers had been close friends in high school. Izumi took an interest in her drawings and later introduced her to manga, redirecting her aspiration from becoming a traditional painter to becoming a mangaka. 364
Her early artistic confidence was shaken during a family trip to England, where she encountered Shiina Mashiro’s overwhelming talent. Izumi helped her emerge from that setback through their shared interest in manga and otaku culture. 364
Eriri was frail throughout childhood and frequently missed school, especially during middle school. Her absences earned her the nickname “Jewel of Shimamura Middle School,” a label she dislikes. Izumi regularly brought her notes and remained concerned for her health; by high school, her condition had largely improved. 1 53 365
When Izumi was transferred away without warning, Eriri’s pride prevented her from contacting him despite missing their walks home and conversations about manga. His return a year later left her both resentful and relieved. 366
At Shuchiin, Eriri maintains the polished image of a gracious young lady while secretly building a successful career as the doujin artist Kashiwagi Eri. She initially treats Izumi’s claims about Spiritual Power and the “Day of Heavenly Change” as delusions, but an encounter with Mashiro’s supernatural painting forces her to accept that the hidden world is real. 1 183 184
Rather than remain behind, Eriri commits herself to the Path of Painting. Her determination to surpass Mashiro ultimately leads to artistic enlightenment and an ability to materialize elements of her drawings. 184 220 274 275
Appearance
Eriri is a blonde, blue-eyed girl whose polished public appearance contrasts sharply with the casual disguises she uses outside school. Her beauty and refined bearing make her highly recognizable at Shuchiin. 1 10
- Dazzling golden hair, most often styled in twin tails. 1 59
- Porcelain-like skin and clear sky-blue eyes. 1 10
- Carries herself with a princess-like, elegant aura when appearing as Sawamura-san at school. 59

Personality
Eriri is proud, competitive, and easily provoked, particularly when her position as Izumi’s childhood friend or her ability as an artist is challenged. Her rivalry with Mashiro drives much of her cultivation through art, while the attention Izumi receives from other girls often brings out her jealousy. 18 47 170 184
She carefully maintains a kind, ladylike public image and is highly conscious of how others perceive her. This concern makes her reluctant to expose her doujin identity or show vulnerability, even when she is sick, frightened, or uncertain. 1 95 209
Despite her tsundere mannerisms, Eriri is deeply caring. She worries about Izumi’s behavior and wellbeing, lends him money when he needs it, trusts him in dangerous situations, and consistently seeks his advice when her art reaches an impasse. 5 33 149 274
Her pride also extends to her own growth: although Izumi offers to heal her nearsightedness directly, Eriri insists on progressing through her own awakening. 220
