Background / History

Boss Qian was the chief manager overseeing Datong Money House's seventy-two branches. Despite his already substantial income and control over enormous daily cash flow, he sought greater wealth and joined Gold-Clad Constable Luo Ma's counterfeit-banknote operation. 27

Luo Ma forced the Luban Divine Axe Sect craftsman Yue Qing and Yue Qing's daughter into producing master plates, while Boss Qian used Datong Money House to conceal the resulting counterfeit notes. Together, they established Jile Tower outside the capital: gamblers paid in gold, silver, or valuables, then withdrew counterfeit banknotes that could circulate through Datong's branches. 27

Boss Qian also kept Yue Qing and his daughter confined at Yunjian Temple under the identities of “Madam Qian” and “Miss Xia'er.” The temple's monks were actually his subordinates, assigned to watch them continuously. 33 36

Boss Qian initially presents himself as a prosperous, stout middle-aged manager in opulent clothing. After his apparent death, he reappears as a lean young man resembling his appearance from twenty years earlier. 28 38

When Luo Ma turns on him, Boss Qian immediately recognizes that he has become another disposable pawn, uses Zhu Ting as a distraction, and escapes through Jile Tower's secret passage. 33 Later, when Rum offers him a chance to build a merchant association, he accepts without hesitation. 47

His concern for his actual family motivates his apparent suicide and preparations for escape. Before Jile Tower falls, he relocates his concubines and children through trusted subordinates. 34 39 47

Counterfeit Banknote Case

Boss Qian partners with Luo Ma to exploit Datong Money House and distribute counterfeit notes through Jile Tower. When the scheme is exposed, he abducts Lu Xiaofeng and feeds him clues intended to lead investigators toward Jile Tower rather than himself and Luo Ma. 27 28

During the raid on Jile Tower, Boss Qian is accused of controlling the establishment from behind the scenes. He realizes Luo Ma intends to frame and eliminate him, escapes to Yunjian Temple, and identifies Luo Ma as the principal mastermind. 33

Staged Death and Rejuvenation

Boss Qian apparently kills himself to protect his family and avoid interrogation. Luo Ma and Jiang Long verify the body, while Zhou Ming secretly uses Perfect Qi to revive him after the others leave. 34 39 40
