A Black woman dressed in white was looking at Blade with a calm expression.
He removed KIVAT from his waist. Without the supply of cell-metalizing toxin, Blade quickly returned to human form. Then he said to the international teams following him, "Don't come in. This is beyond you. Go clear out somewhere else."
The teams, which belonged to different factions, communicated with one another, then actually left the floor and headed elsewhere in the building. In their understanding, Blade had been unstoppable in his earlier displays of strength. If he was telling them to leave, then the enemy in front of him was clearly no pushover. Their presence would only hinder his fight.
These people had been selected for the observation team because they were professionals. They wouldn't act like those overconfident, incompetent teammates in movies who stubbornly stuck around and ended up hurting both themselves and others.
Once the sound of their footsteps had faded, Blade looked at the woman. Countless memories flashed through his mind, most of them of his battles with vampires. And the reason for it all was the woman standing before him—his mother.
"Weren't you dead? You died after giving birth to me, didn't you?"
Blade's mother said, "That night, I came back to life... as a vampire. Then Daikan accepted me completely."

Blade suddenly laughed. He wasn't happy to learn that his mother was still alive; he was laughing at the irony of his actions over the past decade or so. His hatred had driven him to risk his life, and that hatred had stemmed from his mother's death.
He loathed vampires, even the part of himself that was a vampire. But now he'd discovered that the very mother who was the root of everything he'd done had become a vampire long ago.
