A sharp pain pierced Neji's mind, and he jolted awake. Then images flooded into his brain, gradually shifting from blurry to clear before finally freezing on a mourning hall. The stabbing pain in his head eased as well. The contents of those images were not complicated; they merely gave a brief account of the life of a five-year-old child.
The child was named Hyuga Neji, a member of the Hyuga Clan's Branch Family living in Konoha. For the sake of the village's peace, the Hyuga Clan's development, and his own elder brother, his father had chosen suicide, using his corpse in place of his elder brother's to be sent to Kumogakure in exchange for so-called "peace"!
To Neji, who had been born in the twenty-first century, such a thing was utterly laughable. Yet he could not laugh now, because although this had happened to Hyuga Neji, barring any further accidents, Hyuga Neji was now Neji, and Neji was also Hyuga Neji!
Neji had transmigrated. It had to be said, this was rather dramatic, but for Neji, who had achieved nothing in his previous life, it was not necessarily a bad thing. His parents had died in his last life, leaving him single and unburdened by attachments. Though his parents had likewise died in this life and he was still alone, his five-year-old body and this fantastical world gave the newly reborn Neji an unlimited future!
Once he had thought it through, Neji stopped dwelling on it. From this day onward, he would continue living as Hyuga Neji—and he would live well.
He rose to his feet, stretched his body, and tried calling out for a system, a Main God, an intelligent computer... but received no response! Neji felt slightly self-mocking. It seemed he did not have a cheat. But from another perspective, was knowing the plot not a cheat in itself? He stopped thinking about it and silently began looking around his "new home."
Neji currently lived in a small courtyard with three bedrooms, one kitchen, one living room, and two small yards in the front and back. The overall environment was fairly good.
Neji entered his father's bedroom. Since his father had committed suicide, he had arranged his belongings before his death and stored them in his room. There were two boxes of belongings. Neji opened the smaller one first, finding some money inside. After roughly counting it, there appeared to be around ten million ryo. For a jonin, that was fairly ordinary. After all, even the reward for a more difficult A-Rank Mission was close to one million ryo, while in the future, even Asuma's head would be worth thirty million ryo.
Neji did not think much of it. In any case, the money was more than enough for him to use until adulthood. If he did not take the path of a ninja and simply lived an ordinary, uncomplicated life, he could comfortably coast through his days in a drunken haze. But choosing that would be far too boring. Moreover, to Neji, who understood the world of Naruto, without strength, he could only be meat on another's chopping block. That was not the life Neji wanted.
The other wooden box contained books, from introductory ninja texts to detailed explanations of various ninjutsu, seventy or eighty books in total. One handwritten manuscript caught Neji's attention. It contained the insights Hizashi Hyuga had written before his death regarding his own understanding of ninjutsu. Neji's heart trembled. His father had been a strict ninja. Father and son had rarely communicated, and his father had sometimes deliberately avoided Neji, as though he were filled with guilt toward him.
Although Neji could not understand why his father had made that choice, it did not prevent him from feeling his father's love, his longing for the future, and his unwillingness to submit to fate.
Neji picked up an introductory ninja manual and began reading it slowly. Thanks to having been born into a great clan, five-year-old Neji had already completed literacy and Chakra extraction lessons. Reading this introductory ninja text was therefore not difficult for him.
Ninja training was mainly divided into the following aspects:
First was Chakra extraction. Chakra was produced through the combination of physical energy and spiritual energy. Physical energy was drawn from the human body's 130 trillion cells, while spiritual energy was produced through various stimuli or bodily growth. Once the body accumulated sufficient Chakra, it could release various ninjutsu through proper guidance.
Second was physical conditioning. This was relatively easy to understand. Through repeated training, one improved all aspects of the body, including reaction speed, movement speed, punching power, resistance to blows, and so on.
Third was ninjutsu practice. Once a ninja's Chakra reached a certain level, he would generally choose different ninjutsu to practice according to his Chakra nature, in order to increase the power of his ninjutsu and reduce the time needed to cast it.
Fourth were other forms of training, such as kunai throwing and the use of bladed weapons.
Neji had already completed Chakra extraction. A faint thread of Chakra was circulating within his body, and he had already begun training his physique. This had given Neji a good start, ensuring he would not need to begin everything from scratch.
