Wan Qing initially lives at a medical clinic with Xiao Cha. Blind but skilled in pulse diagnosis and acupuncture, she is gentle toward Lu Li from their first meeting and trusts him despite Xiao Cha's suspicions. Xiao Cha has long acted as her protector, concerned that Wan Qing's beauty and trusting nature make her vulnerable to exploitation. 6 11

Her hostility toward Izumo stems from the war that devastated her childhood. Wan Qing later recalls that her parents died during the conflict; Xia Weiyin had saved her life. Ye Zhichao, an imperial general, abandoned their city before Izumo's forces, leaving its grain and weapons behind and shifting blame onto the civilians. 129 360 362
