Background / History
Oblivion River operated secretly within humanity’s upper ranks by erasing or altering the memories and personalities of officials, converting them into obedient puppets. Her identity and main body remained unknown even to Ye Chenyang in his previous life. 9
Her growth differs from ordinary Calamities: rather than relying on Calamity Cores or flesh, she gathers souls. Captured souls enter the Other Shore, weaken over time, and eventually become nourishment for its black river and Flower Sea. 182 276
At Base City No. 1, she used Director Yan Yan as an agent. After his soul underwent “refinement,” he became one of her so-called “New Humans,” gaining power beyond the normal limits of his ability while becoming unable to resist her instructions. 166
After Formless was nearly destroyed by Eternal Day, Oblivion River preserved its remnant soul in a black bead and supplied it with Ghost Flowers. She sought Formless’s fusion characteristics, intending to make it a “material library” if it recovered. 167
She later cooperated with Withering, exchanging materials to raise their respective limits and plotting against human apexes. Her long-term objective was to absorb additional Apex power and become the “Master of the World.” 210 242 272
Oblivion River’s plans were repeatedly disrupted by Jiang Mian/Doom. Realizing that Doomsday had likely infiltrated the Calamity faction, taken Formless’s power, and targeted every apex, Oblivion River experienced rage for the first time. 242
During the conflict around Base City No. 1, her network had already assimilated numerous Mutants and prepared them as hidden combatants. Her experiments also produced Fusion Users: human souls implanted into Calamity bodies while retaining memories and near-human appearances. 267 270 372
After her defeat, Oblivion River fled north with Withering. She later submitted to Jiang Mian, guided her to the Flower Sea, and accepted complete domination rather than death. Jiang Mian appointed her administrator of a newly constructed Other Shore. 320 435 436 437
Appearance
Oblivion River can appear as a blurry, indistinct figure within the Other Shore, though she later commonly takes the form of an elegant woman in a long white dress. 166 435
- Exquisite features and an inhumanly cold expression 449
- Faint, cloying fragrance associated with her mental power and Flower Sea 276 449
- Wears a collar-like device restricting Mental Body transformation while contained by Research Institute No. 1 435
- Her demeanor becomes noticeably more human after her defeat and domination, particularly around the childlike Withering 435
Personality
Initially, Oblivion River is composed, patient, and intensely cautious. She favors hidden influence, long-term infiltration, and arranging circumstances so that others act according to altered perceptions rather than through overt control. 9 96
Her personality gradually becomes more human because the Ghost Flowers nourished by her domain contain the memories, emotions, and souls of those she has captured. She consciously uses these accumulated souls and memories as templates to refine her own personality and judgment. 276 247
Despite her manipulation of humanity, she is capable of concern and cooperation. She preserves Formless’s remnant soul, shows understanding toward Ji Xuan’s pain, and later expresses tenderness toward the childlike Withering. 167 449 435
After Jiang Mian dominates her, Oblivion River accepts her subordinate role with little outward resistance. She recognizes that continued defiance would leave her buried with the old world, while serving the new Other Shore leaves her some hope. 436 437
Abilities & Skills
Other Shore
Oblivion River’s domain is a vast mental world connected to souls, dreams, and death. It contains a black river, paper ferries, and a Flower Sea cultivated from captured souls. 156 166 276
- Captures souls over an extremely broad range and draws them into the Other Shore 156
- Gradually weakens those trapped inside; victims who fail to escape may be absorbed into the river as nourishment 182
- Allows her to open portals and provide support to allies across distances 195 250
- Supports soul projections that can influence reality after she reaches Fifth-tier 167
- Serves as the foundation for her continued growth through accumulated soul fragments and spiritual power 286
Memory and Perception Manipulation
Rather than directly commanding targets, Oblivion River alters their perception of reality, causing them to believe their actions are correct. 96
- Washes away or rewrites memories and personalities to create obedient agents 9
- Creates infiltrators among human institutions, including high-ranking officials 9 244
- Can “refine” souls into New Humans, allowing low-sequence individuals to exceed normal ability limits 166
- Uses [Soul Cleansing] to unlock Nightmare Calamities’ talents 372
- Can mold human souls while preserving their memories, enabling Fusion User experiments 372
Soul Harvesting and Ghost Flowers
Every soul captured by her domain enters the black river. When watered with this soul-filled river water, the Flower Sea produces red Ghost Flowers composed of purified mental energy. 167 276
- Uses Ghost Flowers as high-quality mental nourishment 167
- Fed Formless’s remnant soul with flowers to stabilize and restore it 167
- Gains memories, emotions, and soul-derived power from the Flower Sea 276
- Her growth can continue passively as souls disperse into the world and are gathered by the Other Shore 286
Soul Refinement and Fusion Experiments
Oblivion River developed methods for turning captured people into new forms of life. Her experiments combined human souls with Calamity bodies, producing unstable Fusion Users. 372
- Preserves memories while replacing or reconstructing the target’s original body 372
- Produces “New Humans” who may retain their former identities and appearances 166 372
- Most experimental subjects went mad; only two known subjects remained stable 372
- Her incomplete fusion methods could have become far more dangerous if she had obtained Formless material 372
Equipment / Items
- Black glass bead — Contained Formless’s remnant soul; could absorb Ghost Flowers to nourish it 166 167
- Mortal Embryo — A Silent Death-path backup body refined by Oblivion River for Withering’s consciousness-transfer plan 271
- Paper ferry — A one-person boat used to cross the black river in the Other Shore 166 276
- Containment collar — Restricts her Mental Body transformation during her imprisonment at Research Institute No. 1 435
Relationships
- Jiang Mian / Doom — Former enemy and the source of Oblivion River’s greatest defeat; Jiang Mian ultimately dominates her and appoints her administrator of the new Other Shore 242 436 437.
- Withering / Ji Xuan — Ally and collaborator. They exchanged materials, planned joint operations, and sought to overcome the limitations of their respective paths 210 242 272.
- Formless — Temporarily preserved ally and prospective “material library.” Oblivion River saved its remnant soul to obtain its fusion traits 167.
- Yan Yan — Devoted human agent whose refined soul made him a New Human obedient to Oblivion River 166.
- Xu Xiaoan — Identity originally fabricated by Oblivion River for Formless’s infiltration of the human transport 195 215.
- Eternal Day / Ye Chenyang — A human apex whose identity Oblivion River confirmed through recovered soul fragments; his Radiance is especially dangerous to her allies 166 167.
- Little Withering — Treated with visible tenderness after Oblivion River’s containment and change in disposition 435.
