Early morning.
Bright sunlight streamed through the glass window into the bedroom, shining on Yun Ling's round little bottom.
She scratched at an itch, and her small, high-bridged nose suddenly caught a familiar aroma.
Was that the smell of Wood Powder Porridge?
"Has Dad already made breakfast and is waiting for me?" Yun Ling licked her slightly swollen, delicate lips.
The sweet taste on her lips reminded her that she was married now. She had moved out of the Congee Shop and into her Little Husband Xian He's home.
She recalled how, last night, Xian He had given her a sweet-and-sour Big Red Fruit. He had also conjured a painting out of thin air and pulled her into it...
Yun Ling slowly opened her bright blue eyes. Seeing an unfamiliar white ceiling, she sat up abruptly and asked in surprise, "Where is this? Shouldn't I be at Xian He's home? How did I end up here?"
The brocade bedding, luxurious furniture, and clear glass windows... Everything in the room felt completely unfamiliar to her.
Could she be dreaming?
Yun Ling pinched her tender cheek. The sharp pain made her realize she wasn't dreaming!
Just as Yun Ling sat there, utterly bewildered, Xian He pushed open the bedroom door and walked in with a kind smile, looking just like Maitreya Buddha.
"You're awake?" he asked with a smile, walking around to the inside of the red, heart-shaped bed. He drew back all the curtains and opened the window to air out the room.
The cool morning breeze flowed into the bedroom, refreshing and invigorating.
Yun Ling felt wonderfully refreshed, and couldn't help shivering.
She had never smelled air so pleasant, nor had she ever felt so refreshed.
"Is this the World within the Painting?" Yun Ling asked curiously. Her long golden hair spilled over her shapely body, covering her private parts and making her look incredibly alluring.
The air on the Tianyun Plateau was extremely thin, and mixed with the pungent, strange smell given off by Purple Smoke Stone. So they were no longer on the Tianyun Plateau; they had come to the World within the Painting.
Everything that happened last night had been real. It hadn't been a dream!
Xian He swallowed and nodded. "That's right. We've come to the World within the Painting. Get up. After breakfast, I'll take you out for a look around." With that, he bent down and gently kissed Yun Ling on the forehead.
"How did you get this amazing treasure?" Yun Ling asked curiously as she put on her little golden panties.
Xian He's eyes darted around a few times before he replied, "I found it in the courtyard when I went out to use the toilet last night. The moment I touched it, it turned into a beam of light and burrowed into my head. Maybe Heaven gave it to us as a Wedding Gift."
"Don't worry about how I got it. I have it now, so let's accept it and enjoy it."
Yun Ling knew Xian He was lying, because whenever he lied, he couldn't look her in the eye.
But she didn't plan to press him for answers. If Xian He wasn't telling her, he must have his reasons.
Once Yun Ling was dressed, Xian He brought over a washbasin and a towel.
After washing up, the two went to the living room to eat.
The north wing in the backyard had three rooms: the East Room, the Main Hall, and the West Room.
The East Room was Xian He and Yun Ling's bedroom, the Main Hall served as both living room and dining room, and the West Room was temporarily unoccupied.
"I've been with you for ten years, yet I had no idea you could cook. You've really kept that well hidden," Yun Ling teased as she sat down at the Eight Immortals Table.
The Eight Immortals Table stood solidly in the Main Hall. Yun Ling sat on the left, facing the doorway of the Main Hall.
Xian He sat beside Yun Ling on the right, facing the doorway.
The Eight Immortals Table had eight seats in all. Xian He sat in the first seat, and Yun Ling in the second. Their seats represented their identities and status in the family.
Xian He hadn't wanted to follow so many rules, but after Old Man Yun's Iron Palm lessons, he'd had no choice but to give in.
Old Man Yun was a White Jade Five Stars martial artist. Whether Xian He was a child or an adult, he had never been a match for him.
Although Old Man Yun couldn't control him now that he was in the Inner World, after ten years of being put through the wringer, those rules had seeped into his bones.
"Here, have a Steamed Cake." Xian He picked up a dark-brown cake with his chopsticks and placed it on Yun Ling's plate.
Steamed Cakes were also called steamed buns. They were much like mantou, except they were made with unleavened dough and were very chewy.
A basket of Steamed Cakes and a basin of Wood Powder Porridge made up their entire breakfast.
Although his cooking skills had now reached Grandmaster Level 1, even the cleverest housewife couldn't cook without ingredients. Wood powder wasn't flour; it could only be used to make Steamed Cakes and Wood Powder Porridge, not more sophisticated foods.
Yun Ling picked up a Steamed Cake hesitantly and held it beneath her small nose to sniff. It smelled pretty good, but she didn't know how it would taste.
She had never seen Xian He cook, not once, from childhood to adulthood. It was hard not to feel a little nervous about tasting something he had made for the first time.
Yun Ling took a small bite. Though the Steamed Cake felt hard to the touch, it was just right to eat and not difficult to chew at all.
"Mmm... Delicious!"
"If it's good, have some more." Xian He's heart finally settled. As long as his wife liked the food, everything was fine. If she didn't, he'd have to pick some pomegranates from the courtyard for her instead. "Don't choke. I'll get you a bowl of Wood Powder Porridge."
