Background
Muneyoshi transmigrated into the world of The Prince of Tennis and became Saeki Kōjirō’s cousin. Aware of the sport’s coming era of prodigies, he resolved to train relentlessly and establish himself among them. 1
He began tennis six years before graduating elementary school and trained with unusually systematic discipline. His only innate “cheat” was a data template that quantified the Five Dimensions of himself and his opponents during matches; it provided no direct enhancement or optimization. 2 12
Appearance
Muneyoshi is a youthful player recognized by his silver-white hair and stern, confident bearing. 1 790
- Hair: Silver-white. 1
- Eyes: Brown; when exerting his power, they can manifest golden and purplish-black flames. 790
- Manifestation: His Asura Path produces a silver-white phantom wielding a katana-like blade. 453 690
Personality
Muneyoshi is disciplined, competitive, and intensely ambitious. He treats powerful opponents as opportunities for growth, pursues victory without apology, and openly seeks to surpass established figures such as Byōdōin Hōō, Oni Jūjirō, and Echizen Nanjirō. 16 688 857
Off court, he can be relaxed and even self-aware about his own flaws. In Spain, he acknowledged that his personality could be terrible and considered making friends as a means of changing himself. 112 On court, however, Darkness initially amplified his aggression and created a stark contrast between his ordinary demeanor and his merciless match state. 72 675
Despite his ruthlessness, he is capable of constructive support. He deliberately pressured Tachibana Kippei to force him past his psychological barriers, then shared tailored training plans with Fudomine’s players. 204 209
Abilities & Skills
Five Dimensions Data Template
Muneyoshi’s original special ability quantifies the Five Dimensions—speed, strength, stamina, technique, and mental power—of both himself and his opponents during a match. 2
- Enables systematic evaluation of opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. 2 367
- Does not directly increase his abilities or provide an optimization route. 2
- Forced him to develop his strength through sustained physical and technical training. 2
Potential Absorption
Muneyoshi can draw potential from opponents he defeats or pressures, using it to expand his own growth ceiling. 112 491
- Gained strength-related potential from Ishida Gin and Tatum. 112
- Can exploit an opponent’s weaker attribute; against Echizen Ryōga, he drained stamina when power, speed, technique, and mental power could not be effectively absorbed. 491
- His absorption is less effective against opponents whose relevant attributes are already highly developed or superior to his own. 491
Darkness and Darkness Domain
Darkness is the foundation of Muneyoshi’s tennis system. It combines destructive shots, mental pressure, and a domain that weakens balls entering his court. 60 196
- Darkness Domain — Corrodes incoming shots, reducing their speed and power while disturbing the opponent’s emotions and concentration. 196 327 367
- Falling Darkness — Produces shadow-like ball images and envelops opponents in a Darkness-based mental attack. 60 452
- Dark Fluorescent Flame / Darkness Shot — Infuses returns with destructive Darkness power. 85 196
- Shadow Severance: Chaotic Flower Burial — A swift cutting attack capable of slicing through a ball, racket, and defensive techniques. 98 190
- Shadow Severance: Cherry Blossom Fall — A defensive net of Darkness that devours and neutralizes the force of incoming attacks. 196
- Darkness and the Asura Path impose severe stamina demands; early use of both states could exhaust his stamina and mental power after a single major attack. 226
Asura Path and Silver-White Soul
Muneyoshi’s Asura Path manifests through a silver-white soul and a katana-bearing phantom. It elevates his mental power, physical output, and cutting-style offense. 198 453
- Awakened when his mental power broke through under Oni Jūjirō’s pressure. 198
- Refined through waterfall training supervised by Mifune Nyūdō. 199
- Silver White Soul — Shadow Three Severing Slashes — His ultimate triple-slash technique, capable of tearing apart a court and breaking through powerful domains. 453 619
- Moonlight Condensation — A decisive technique used to defeat Oni Jūjirō’s fully merged Oni God form. 691
Light–Darkness and Qi Fusion
Muneyoshi developed a personal path by combining Darkness, Qi, mental power, and later Light. He considers this mixed route his key advantage over players who follow more conventional systems. 112 226
- Candlelight Illumination: Ghost Dance — Fuses Light and Darkness into an offensive technique that overwhelms defensive fields. 453
- Light Darkness Twin Stars — Destroys the rotational structure of Tezuka’s Zone-based defense. 619
- Light Darkness Absolute Slash — A near-perfect fusion attack capable of cutting open Oni Jūjirō’s Different Dimension Realm. 690
- Eclipse — Uses mental power and precise timing to counter Sanada Genichirō’s advanced techniques. 653
Movement and Racket Techniques
Muneyoshi combines polished fundamentals with kendo-inspired racket movements and explosive footwork. 196 205
- Geppo — Self-named footwork that allows abrupt directional changes, precise interception, and seemingly teleport-like movement. 205 489
- Light Shadow Fleeting — An extreme-speed Darkness serve that scored directly against Polk. 84 706
- Multi-ball play — Can accurately return attacks that create numerous ball images, including Byōdōin’s pirate-style techniques. 85 675
- Black Tomahawk — Reproduced and refined Oni Jūjirō’s technique to defeat Oni with his own move. 692
Relationships
- Saeki Kōjirō — Cousin and fellow tennis player; Kōjirō hoped they would enroll together and lead Rokkaku Middle School to victory. 1
- Rokkaku Old Man — Mentor who guided Muneyoshi’s training, helped him settle his mindset, and introduced him to Byōdōin. 78 84
- Mifune Nyūdō — Coach and Asura Path mentor; trained Muneyoshi under a waterfall after his breakthrough. 199
- Tachibana Kippei — Fudomine teammate and rival; Muneyoshi used their match to push Tachibana beyond his mental barriers. 204 208 209
- Keith — Teammate and recurring opponent whose Gravity technique helped Muneyoshi advance the Path of Darkness. 109 209
- Lin Xiu — Fudomine teammate who arrived in Japan alongside Keith. 209
- Tezuka Kunimitsu — Longstanding rival whose pressure helped Muneyoshi reach the national level; their later matches became contests between Darkness, Domains, and Tezuka’s evolving Muga-based system. 12 111 619
- Oni Jūjirō — Senior rival whose overwhelming strength catalyzed Muneyoshi’s Asura Path; Muneyoshi later defeated him in a revenge match. 196 198 691 692
- Byōdōin Hōō — Mentor, measuring stick, and rival. Muneyoshi first tested himself against Byōdōin under Rokkaku Old Man’s guidance, then later challenged him as part of his hunt for Japan’s strongest players. 84 85 692 696
- Medrano — A world-class rival whose final confrontation pushed Muneyoshi toward Yin–Yang unity and helped secure Japan’s U-17 World Cup victory. 856
