The Slytherin Statue opened its mouth, and a hissing sound came from within.
"If the Basilisk appears, remember to close your eyes beforehand."
Dumbledore called out a warning as he waved his wand.
"Bang."
A ball of flame burst into the air, and Fawkes flew out of it.
Voldemort waved his wand, sending two spells toward the professors who were trying to pull Ginny and Neville away.
"They don't want to leave. You two go," Voldemort told them.
The two of them looked at Dumbledore.
"Get out first and send the students back to their common rooms," Dumbledore ordered.
They left, with Snape following close behind.
Lucius looked toward Voldemort, waiting for his instructions.
Voldemort gave him a look, and he left as well.
Soon, only Dumbledore and Voldemort remained in the Chamber of Secrets, along with the two children.
"Close your eyes, Luna. The Basilisk is dangerous," Voldemort told her.
Luna nodded obediently, then closed her eyes.
"Is she going to become one of your Death Eaters?"
The Basilisk had yet to appear. As he waited, Dumbledore asked Voldemort.
"No, Albus. The Death Eaters are an organization with a creed, and Luna's beliefs are different from theirs," Voldemort replied slowly.
"A creed, Tom? You mean Glory of the Pure-blood?" Dumbledore said, pointing toward the entrance.
Fawkes flew up to the ceiling and watched over the Basilisk as it slowly stirred awake.
"You could put it that way, Albus," Voldemort said thoughtfully. "Perhaps the definition of Pure-blood should be broadened. Someone of your standing ought to be included."
"After all, the Dumbledores are a powerful family."
"I don't need that sort of glory," Dumbledore said, shaking his head. "Tom, you owe me an explanation about those three children."
