Although he hadn't managed to fully peer into the second layer of Lockhart's memory space, it had already given Voldemort plenty of inspiration.
All this time, he had been faced with an incredibly complex question:
Who am I?
Unlike the philosophical question ordinary people asked themselves, his confusion stemmed more from the fusion and opposition of two souls.
Lin Zuo's personality was gentle and timid; Voldemort's was ruthless and decisive.
When the two had been unequal, Voldemort hadn't been troubled by this question.
But ever since he had fused with the diary Horcrux, the two souls had become equals, and the conflict between their personalities had spiraled out of control.
Faced with this situation, Voldemort had chosen to favor the Remnant Soul's personality, since it was better suited to the Wizarding World and more likely to survive.
But that didn't mean Lin Zuo's true nature wouldn't resist. His occasional lapses into kindness were the best proof of that.
If he let things continue like this, Voldemort couldn't imagine what the final outcome would be.
Perhaps a split personality would be the best possible result.
He had considered solving the problem, but until now, he hadn't found a good place to start.
Only after this operation had he finally found a clear direction:
He would construct a second layer of memory space like Lockhart's and store all of Lin Zuo's and the Remnant Soul's memories inside it.
Then the personalities reflected by the two would no longer be capable of harming him.
"It's a shame I didn't discover how he built that kind of memory structure. Still, having a direction is already a very good result. Perhaps trying something like Inception wouldn't be a bad choice either."
When he returned to Malfoy Manor late that night, Voldemort eagerly set to work.
