Lucius Malfoy learned of his son's beating before he had lunch.
At the time, his eyes widened in surprise. He couldn't imagine who would dare treat his son like this. This was the only son of the Malfoy family, the sole heir of this glorious family.
However, his surprise and anger didn't last long. The name Quirinus Quirrell instantly calmed him down.
"Lucius, I'm going to Hogwarts, right now. Oh heavens, how dare that Quirrell do this..." Narcissa Malfoy said tearfully, chattering incessantly.
"I told him not to provoke the Master... to cause trouble."
Malfoy's roar was met with his wife's approval, but she felt it wasn't enough.
"Since you've met that Quirrell, you should have been stricter with him. It seems he..."
Before his wife could finish speaking, Malfoy raised his hand to stop her.
I'm talking about that filial son, not my Master... Malfoy thought helplessly.
"I'll handle this. You don't need to go. Draco isn't seriously injured, just a little bump near his eye."
Under his wife's bewildered gaze, Malfoy picked up his cane and prepared to leave, but he stopped again.
"Don't do anything," he instructed his wife. "I'll make all the decisions."
This rare admonition made Narcissa realize the issue wasn't that simple. She suppressed the anger in her heart and asked, "Is Draco's injury really not serious?"
"It's not serious. The news is reliable. You just wait at home. I'll bring him back to see you on the weekend. It will be soon."
He added another instruction, kissed Narcissa's forehead, and then turned to walk into the study.
The Malfoy study was very large, with rows of bookshelves filled with various magical books, including some rare first editions.
But Malfoy's target wasn't these books. He walked to a bookshelf protected by many spells. Besides some books, there were also some small ornaments displayed here.
He carefully deactivated the protective magic, and Malfoy took down a ring – its material was dark silver, and atop the ring coiled a little snake with silver eyes.
After putting the ring on his hand and reactivating the bookshelf's protective magic, he left Malfoy Manor.
But he didn't go to Hogwarts immediately. Instead, he visited several families at extreme speed and obtained what he wanted before setting off for Hogwarts.
This caused some delay, so it was already afternoon when he arrived at Hogwarts.
Without seeing Dumbledore or his son, Malfoy went directly to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom on the second floor.
"Bang."
He rudely pushed the door open, and under the astonished gaze of several young eagles, Malfoy flung the document in his hand into Voldemort's face. This greatly surprised Voldemort, but he also saw a flash of panic in Malfoy's eyes.
"You're fired, Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts. On behalf of the Board of Directors, go find a new job."
Malfoy's angry, rude, and arrogant voice echoed in the empty classroom.
The young eagles trembled. Even though their professor and senior was being treated this way, they didn't dare make a sound – self-preservation was an Eagle House tradition.
"Lucius Malfoy?"
Voldemort stared coldly at Malfoy. "I don't think the directors have such authority. To dismiss me, Headmaster Dumbledore's signature is required."
"Assaulting a student during class, a professor like you, the Board of Directors naturally has the right."
He roared and stepped forward to grab Voldemort. This surprised Voldemort a little; he didn't know what Malfoy was trying to do.
He dodged at first, but then Voldemort restrained his instincts and reached out to block Malfoy's hand.
Malfoy's hand should have landed on Voldemort's arm, but he shifted his position, and their hands clasped in an instant.
The snake's head on the dark silver ring flashed with a faint white light.
At that moment, Voldemort felt a touch, as if some magic was prying into his thoughts. The prying sensation wasn't strong; it even carried a hint of invitation.
Voldemort made a motion to withdraw his hand. During this time, he thought briefly and decided to accept the prying.
As soon as he opened his mind, a voice immediately came, "Master, how should I cooperate with you?"
It was Malfoy. Although he didn't know how he did it, Voldemort was certain that the owner of this thought was him.
"You're doing very well now. Keep attacking me and causing trouble for Dumbledore." Voldemort's thoughts instantly entered Malfoy's mind through the ring.
"Aren't you afraid they'll fire you? Or is being fired part of the plan?" Malfoy asked.
"Dumbledore won't allow such a thing to happen. It concerns his authority. Besides, I acted for Gryffindor. He has to consider his reputation."
Malfoy continued the pulling motion, understanding his Master's plan – he wanted to cause trouble for Dumbledore, and Malfoy's position on the Board could achieve just that.
A perfect plan. Master has become wise again... Malfoy thought.
"I will cooperate with you. I hope you don't blame me for throwing the paper in your face."
Malfoy's consciousness was already intending to withdraw from the communication, but Voldemort stopped him.
"Little Malfoy needs to be educated," Voldemort said urgently before the connection was broken.
Malfoy froze, causing his pulling motion to momentarily stagnate. Fortunately, Voldemort reacted quickly, pretending to break free, prompting Malfoy to pull again.
"You're spoiling him too much. As one of the future pillars of the Death Eaters, he should grow up quickly instead of becoming a spoiled child."
"I understand, Master."
Malfoy replied almost without hesitation and quickly explained the reason for Draco's indulgence.
"I wasn't sure when you'd be back, so I didn't dare discipline him too harshly. He's too outstanding, and it would draw more attention. Those people are watching my family, and I have to cause them less trouble."
"The trouble will all disappear, and we will achieve ultimate victory."
After saying this, Voldemort violently flung his hand away, breaking free from Malfoy's grasp, and also actively severed their connection.
The Dark Lord will win... Malfoy thought to himself, but his face remained one of resentment.
Only where others couldn't see, he put his hand back into the pocket of his wizard robe. When he took it out again, the ring had vanished.
"I'm going to find Dumbledore right now. I think he'll give me an explanation and account to the board members."
Malfoy roared and left without hesitation.
"Continue with your lessons, children."
Voldemort's expression was also not good, as if Malfoy had ruined his mood. "I don't think anyone wants to end up like Draco."
The little eagles, looking out for themselves, nodded vigorously, trying hard to appear very serious. What they were thinking in their hearts, however, no one knew.
