Background / History

The Drowned God is the central deity of Ironborn religion. Ironborn tradition holds that he forged the Ironborn from iron, unlike the Andals, who were supposedly made from soft gold, and other peoples, who were made from mud. His faith frames the sea as the Ironborn's natural domain and gives spiritual legitimacy to their martial culture, raiding, and indifference toward death 2 15.
