Background / History

Yulon was born the second son of Kolen Greyjoy, ruler of House Greyjoy. At age three, he was already known across the Iron Islands for his heterochromatic eyes—one black and one blue—and was publicly revered as the “Son of the Drowned God,” a supposed incarnation and future hope of the Ironborn. Privately, he considered such attention dangerous and deliberately restrained how much of his unusual knowledge he revealed. 2

He possesses the memories of Huang Zhengdao, who accepted that he had entered the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. This knowledge gives Yulon awareness of possible future conflicts, House Greyjoy’s likely decline, and the danger of following the same path as the original Euron Greyjoy. He intends instead to combine foreknowledge, study, and Ironborn ambition to change the islands’ fate. 2 3

Yulon supported Kolen’s effort to replace raiding with trade, but argued that reform had to be gradual: successful small changes on Pike could demonstrate the value of a new path before confronting defenders of the Old Way directly. His proposals included controlled foreign trade, piracy regulation, and improved conditions for enslaved laborers. 3 16

At sea aboard the Hao Yin, he survived his first naval battle at five years old. He recognized a disguised Braavosi vessel as a likely trap, killed two attackers during the boarding action, and identified the captured vessel as a slave ship. The voyage also fully activated the Pirate King System. 7 10

As his influence expanded, Yulon established an intelligence asset in Pentoshi merchant Mario, created the high-grade salt product “Platinum Sand,” toured the Iron Islands to assess its lords, and prepared a long expedition through Essos. 23 24 32 36

Appearance

Yulon is a young Greyjoy boy with curly hair and striking heterochromia. His eyes are repeatedly described as unsettling: one is black and seemingly light-swallowing, while the other is icy blue. 2 16 23

  • One black left eye and one blue right eye; after his confrontation with the Many-Faced God, the left eye becomes a pure, bottomless black. 2 43
  • Often wears a kraken robe signifying his status at the council, or a dark gray hooded cloak when acting discreetly. 19 23
  • Small and physically limited by age, but notably stubborn in training and battle. 3 17
  • During his Grey King bloodline awakening, weak blue electrical arcs appear around his body. 43

Personality

Yulon is intensely ambitious, calculating, and knowledge-driven. He views information, trade, magic, bloodlines, and military strength as forms of power to acquire and use. His adult memories make him unusually composed and politically aware for his age, though he consciously hides his intelligence when exposure would be dangerous. 2 3 35 45

He favors patient, incremental change over reckless confrontation. In politics, he observes before acting, maps factions and grudges, and seeks practical proof that reforms will benefit the Iron Islands. 15 16 19

Yulon can also be ruthless. He controls Mario through poison and surveillance, treats the merchant explicitly as a tool, and is willing to use coercion to obtain skilled workers or strategic resources. 23 47

His ambition prevents him from accepting the Faceless Men’s philosophy. He seeks power and control, whereas their path requires the destruction of identity, desire, and attachment. 42

Abilities & Skills

Conqueror’s Haki

A passive ability gained from the Pirate King System. It manifests involuntarily during intense emotion, fear, anger, or life-threatening situations. 10 37

  • Creates an aura of kingship, awe, wariness, or fear within approximately ten paces. 10
  • Can make weaker individuals hesitate, flee, or struggle to resist. 10
  • Pressured opponents may suffer diminished strength, agility, and mental focus, including illusions or hallucinations. 10
  • Cannot initially be activated at will; its Lv. 1 effects are weaker than the ability’s equivalent in One Piece. 10

Grey King Bloodline

An ancestral Greyjoy bloodline awakened through the Pirate King System’s Lineage Factor. It deepens Yulon’s connection to the sea and strengthens his presence. 33

  • Grants enhanced oceanic abilities and a majestic aura. 33
  • Enables him to see through illusions with his black left eye. 43
  • Is associated with the appearance of the Golden Kraken, which protects his ships during a storm. 38
  • Reacts violently when he defies death at the Hall of Black and White, producing electrical arcs and further transforming his left eye. 43

Combat

Yulon began weapons and navigation training at three. He understands that his young body cannot overcome stronger opponents through force alone, so he emphasizes mobility, precision, and practical violence. 3 27

  • Basic sword training under his uncle Balon; later receives a small wooden sword from Kolen. 3
  • Uses daggers, harpoons, salt, terrain, and enemy injuries pragmatically in battle. 7
  • Learned brutal close-quarters Ironborn deck fighting during the Hao Yin voyage. 7
  • Trains with Braavosi water dancer Raphael Ortega. 33
  • Uses Six Powers — Kami-e for enhanced evasion. 33
  • Gains Two Sword Style Lv. 1 in Braavos. 41
  • Defeats Jorah, son of Khal Drogo, in Vaes Dothrak and earns horses and respect. 49

Yulon studies navigation from childhood and uses exploration as a deliberate method of gaining Pirate King System points. 3 27

  • Has Basic Navigation, Shipbuilding, and Meteorology skills. 37
  • Explores dangerous and uncharted areas of Pike, the Iron Islands, Braavos, and Essos for points and intelligence. 27 32 41
  • Fishman Breathing lets him dive deeply, remain underwater for extended periods, and move through reefs faster than fish. 33
  • Uses maps, trade-route information, and regional resource records as strategic assets. 18 46 47

Languages and Scholarship

Yulon was already able to read at three, though he pretended to struggle in order to conceal the advantage provided by his adult memories. 3

  • Studies Iron Islands history, heraldry, laws, navigation logs, and war records. 2 3
  • Learns High Valyrian from Lysa while copying ancient texts. 13
  • Becomes fluent in High Valyrian after gaining the Archaeologist talent. 33
  • Uses knowledge of ancient sites, languages, regional feuds, and local resources to support long-term planning. 33 47

Medicine and Alchemy

Yulon possesses practical medical knowledge and applies it under pressure. 6

  • Treats Hoke’s severe leg injury aboard the Hao Yin, saving his life and earning the crew’s respect. 6
  • Designs the production process for “Platinum Sand,” a refined high-quality salt product made in Pike’s deep cellars. 24
  • Uses Lysa’s poison, Siren’s Kiss, to compel Mario’s service as an informant. 23
