Even Qi Kaiyou had realized it. The creature wasn't a Chinese paddlefish.
The other experts had realized it, too.
Even Chen Li, a layman, understood that much.
But if it wasn't a Chinese paddlefish, then what was it?
What other fish in the reservoir could grow so large?
"Quick... Let's get over there and take a look!" Qi Kaiyou hurriedly called out.
He'd realized something: if Yucheng's changing climate had attracted Chinese paddlefish, who was to say it couldn't attract other kinds of fish, too?
Perhaps this was another species that had been drawn there.
But what kind of fish could grow so large?
The speedboat crept forward. Qi Kaiyou was afraid they'd make too much noise and scare off the newly sighted creature.
To his astonishment, the fish seemed to notice them approaching and swam toward them of its own accord. Before long, it was circling their speedboat.
Qi Kaiyou told the others to stop the boat. Then came a splash, and a pure white shape leaped out of the water, appearing right before their eyes.
Another splash, and a second white shape sprang from the water.
Both creatures traced perfect arcs through the air before crashing back into the water. It was a remarkably beautiful sight.
At the sight of the white creatures, Qi Kaiyou and the others were stunned.
They weren't fish at all.
"D-dolphins? Albino ones?" one expert blurted out.
Their shape and build were unmistakably dolphin-like.
"Those aren't dolphins," another expert immediately countered with a shake of his head.
How could dolphins be found in an inland river, let alone ones attracted by Yucheng's changing climate?
That theory made no sense.
"Baiji dolphins! They look like baiji dolphins!" Qi Kaiyou suddenly exclaimed, naming a creature that left even him in disbelief.
At the words "baiji
