Background / History
Mu led Iwagakure during the Second Great Ninja World War and mentored Ōnoki. While observing Sunagakure’s orderly withdrawal, he correctly inferred that Sāmon had likely been incapacitated, forcing Yunqing to assume the Kazekage position and return home. He regarded Sunagakure’s departure as the point at which Iwagakure’s conflict with Konoha would enter its decisive stage. 2
He treated treaties as temporary conveniences rather than binding restraints, arguing that shinobi would discard agreements when circumstances changed. Mu expected Iwagakure to resume war after Sunagakure withdrew and paid compensation, particularly because Kumogakure remained a threat behind them. 2
At the Land of Rain peace talks, Mu openly clashed verbally with Hiruzen Sarutobi and showed no loyalty to Konoha despite their temporary alignment against Sunagakure. He also viewed the Sannin’s challenge against Yunqing as a useful test that could weaken Konoha regardless of the result. 6
Mu was killed by the Second Mizukage, Hōzuki Gengetsu, during their era’s conflicts. After being revived, he found that the Gene Potion had healed the facial disfigurement he had concealed beneath his bandages. 308 472

Personality
Mu was calculating, distrustful, and pragmatic. He considered diplomacy subordinate to military necessity and saw alliances as tools to be abandoned once they no longer served Iwagakure’s interests. 2
He was deeply wary of Konoha’s growing generation of talent. Yunqing’s pressure on the Sannin, Hatake Sakumo’s appearance, and the prospect of Konoha producing several more Kage-level shinobi all unsettled him. 6 11
