Background / History
Lin Chenran awakens in a hospital in spring 1984 after transmigrating and receiving the memories of his new identity. He initially expects a system to accompany his transmigration. 1
Rather than entering the army like his elder brother Lin Xuan, Lin Chenran enters the military-industrial field. He is appointed director of the financially troubled 077 Machinery Military Factory, a third-tier military factory that is later described as having been close to bankruptcy before his tenure. His grandfather, Old Master Lin, initially believes the appointment gives him too much responsibility too early. 36 241
Lin’s first major rescue plan is to convert obsolete Type 59 tanks into civilian engineering vehicles. After consuming Memory Bread to improve his cognitive capacity, he rapidly completes a modified-vehicle design and orders the first prototype tested. The vehicle’s eventual commercial success supplies the factory with the funds to modernize its facilities and production lines. 3 51
Abilities & Skills
Military-Industrial Design and Development
Lin leads or contributes decisive concepts and designs across land, air, naval, missile, communications, and civilian-industrial programs.
- Converted the Type 59 tank into a civilian engineering vehicle, giving the 077 Factory a viable commercial product. 3 5
- Presented the 077 Factory’s second-generation main battle tank design during Yan Country’s bidding conference; its design features a 120 mm smoothbore cannon, a 580-horsepower diesel engine, and advanced special-steel armor. 22 23
- Advanced the use of Xuanwu special steel, later incorporated into the Apocalypse Tank’s armor. 55 95
- Led the Aegis missile destroyer design effort at the 704 Shipyard, despite initially claiming only superficial naval knowledge. 130 133
- Proposed and supported projects including the Chinook heavy helicopter reverse-engineering program, Osprey transport aircraft, Yun-10 large aircraft, Dragon Shadow fighter jet, carrier-based aircraft, strategic nuclear submarine systems, and stealth fighters. 124 126 151 193 213 302
System and Multiversal Travel
Lin possesses a System that enables travel between worlds and grants overwhelming personal power outside his home world.
- Transports himself across worlds, including the Marvel, Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, and Pacific Rim worlds. 14 91 121
- Can instantly appear or disappear; General Stecker Pentecost’s team witnesses his unexplained appearance at a military base. 121
- Is described as invincible in the myriad worlds and effortlessly neutralizes Lazy Goat’s experimental sheep-catching weapon. 91
- Can suppress his aura to the point that T’Challa cannot sense him despite being nearby. 14
- Uses the System’s storage capacity to return with helicopter prototypes, helicopter blueprints, and giant-mech design data. 123
Technology Acquisition and Adaptation
Lin obtains advanced technology through trade, multiversal travel, and reverse-engineering efforts, then integrates it into Yan Country’s industrial base.
- Acquires Vibranium through a negotiated transaction with T’Challa rather than forcibly taking it. 14
- Secures Chinook and Osprey helicopter blueprints from the Pacific Rim world. 123
- Obtains AL-31FN turbofan engines, related technology, and production lines in exchange for anti-radiation robots and protective suits during the Chernobyl crisis. 173 176
- Intends to use the Taihang turbofan project’s research team alongside acquired engine technology to develop more advanced aerospace engines. 180
Negotiation and International Trade
Lin consistently turns military technology, industrial goods, and geopolitical instability into mutually beneficial—though often highly profitable—agreements.
- Negotiates a 60–40 arrangement with the Yan Country military for Type 59 tank chassis and receives support for exports and retired-tanker recruitment. 10
- Establishes a legitimate Yan Country–Bear Country trade route through Kovalevitch, exchanging light industrial goods for military hardware, engines, and scrapped vessels. 39 45
- Uses Bear Country’s need for anti-radiation equipment during the Chernobyl disaster to obtain AL-31FN technology. 175 176
- Leads Yan Country’s Arctic Shipping Lane negotiations and uses Bear Country’s drinking culture to gain an advantage before formal talks. 213 220 221
- Secures international arms contracts with Sha Country, Da Mu Country, Iron Brother Country, and other delegations. 162 186 250
Leadership and Workforce Management
Lin prioritizes factory expansion, talent acquisition, employee benefits, and high rewards for technical achievement.
- Implements a three-shift system with appropriate benefits while managing the factory directly. 51
- Uses high salaries and bonuses to retain capable researchers and workers, arguing that dedication alone cannot sustain motivation. 103
- Announces a 20 million Yan currency employee bonus, later increasing the year-end bonus pool to 45 million Yan currency. 163 239
- Delegates technical decisions to specialists, including allowing his team to determine whether a carrier-based fighter should be upgraded or designed from scratch. 213
- Resolves the 704 Shipyard’s manpower shortage by distributing construction orders to partner shipyards while retaining 704 engineering oversight. 238
