"R-Raikou?"
Yan Yang had never expected Raikou to be the one outside.
How had he found this place? Had Entei told him?
Yan Yang felt a little nervous.
He was not afraid of Raikou's somewhat fierce appearance. On the contrary, he even thought it looked rather cool.
But Entei was always telling him things about Raikou, so he had come to believe that Raikou had a bad temper.
Now that such a huge Raikou was standing right in front of him, how could he not be nervous?
Raikou stared at him.
Cold sweat streamed down Yan Yang's back.
He had heard that Raikou was the Legendary Beast who trusted humans the least. Was he going to kill him?
The thought was dismissed as soon as it arose. Pokémon were not that vicious, and the Legendary Beasts would never hurt a child.
He found it more believable that Entei had invited Raikou over to play after handling his business. That should mean Raikou bore him no ill will.
And indeed, things were exactly as he had thought.
The moment Raikou looked at the child before him, he knew this was his target.
The location matched, and the child carried the scent his little brother had left behind.
He had heard that this child could communicate normally with Pokémon.
Naturally, Raikou was interested.
And the child had even called out his name. It seemed Entei mentioned him quite often in front of Yan Yang. He wondered how Entei had described him—he must have said plenty of good things, right? His third brother did not look like the kind of bastard Pokémon who would badmouth him in front of a child.
Before Entei and the others caught up, he would just abduct the little brat and play with him for a while.
Thinking of how much Entei treasured this child, Raikou found it amusing.
Raikou had always been one to act the moment he decided. He suddenly reached out with both forepaws and grabbed Yan Yang. Before Yan Yang could react, Raikou had already pinned him down.
Scary. Σ(ŎдŎ|||)ノノ
Then, Yan Yang felt the solid ground beneath his feet suddenly vanish, replaced by a slightly rough back rippling with muscle. His heart pounded violently.
Raikou had lightly swung him up with one thick forepaw. After the world spun around him, Yan Yang was sent helplessly flying through the air before landing heavily on Raikou's broad back.
It did not hurt, but it was terrifying. He felt like he would fall to the ground with the slightest mistake. Entei had never gotten him onto his back this way.
"Don't call me Raikou. Call me Second Uncle." Raikou seemed quite dissatisfied that Yan Yang had addressed him directly by name.
Only after saying it did Yan Yang realize that perhaps he should not have called him that. But Pokémon probably did not care too much about such things, right? He sometimes called Entei by name too, and Entei had never scolded him for it.
But Yan Yang was not thinking about that now. All he could think about was what Raikou wanted to do.
"Second Uncle, what are you trying to do?" Yan Yang was a little scared. Raikou seemed to be trying to secretly take him away. How could that be okay?
"What am I doing? Taking you out to play, of course. Hold on tight." Raikou's tone sounded like that of a street thug, carrying a roguish air. How could a Legendary Beast give off that kind of feeling?
Just as Yan Yang was about to refuse, Raikou had already risen and sprinted off in a certain direction.
"Ah—"
Raikou was extremely fast, much faster than Entei. After all, his base Speed in the games was higher than Entei's, though it was also because Entei had hardly ever carried him at full speed.
At Raikou's current speed, it felt like he was running at full tilt.
Yan Yang had no idea how long Raikou ran. Everything around them became unfamiliar and distant. The howling wind filled his ears, mixed with the rustling of leaves, and every so often he could hear the roars of other Pokémon and wild beasts.
The roars of beasts were especially piercing in the silent forest at night, sending chills down his spine. The once-familiar surroundings had now become an unknown and dangerous world, making it hard not to feel utterly helpless.
Where had Raikou brought him? Was he still in the forest near his home? Obviously not.
Yan Yang tried to struggle as well, but he found that he simply could not contend with such strength. He could only cling futilely to the fur on Raikou's back, trying his best not to fall off from the jolting.
Raikou's fur was rather short—much shorter than Entei's—and much harder to grab. So Yan Yang mostly held onto the purple-brown mane at the back of his neck, where the fur was thicker.
Raikou's footsteps were heavy and powerful, each step seeming to stomp on Yan Yang's chest and leave him slightly breathless.
Luckily, his body was fairly strong. Otherwise, Raikou would have scared him to death already.
Couldn't you consider the feelings of the person on your back?
Yan Yang felt that after this ordeal, his ability to withstand pressure had improved tremendously.
So much so that when Raikou finally stopped, Yan Yang calmed down quickly instead of being too overwhelmed to react like before.
After climbing down from Raikou's back, Yan Yang panted as though he had just ridden a roller coaster—both nervous and exhilarated.
"Looks like you're in pretty good shape, kid. But you still lack training. It's obvious Entei hasn't put you through enough exercise." Raikou commented from the side, like an instructor giving advice after parents had sent their child to a martial arts school.
Yan Yang said nothing. He was still a little upset. Raikou had taken off with him without even letting him agree first. Anyone would feel bad about that.
And it was pitch-black outside. No matter how one looked at it, this was not the time to go out and play. Raikou had brought him so far away—was he afraid Entei would find them?
Entei would be worried if he could not find him, right?
Yan Yang was extremely worried about Entei.
Entei finding this place would probably lead to a huge fight with Raikou. Yan Yang no longer found the way Raikou looked at him annoying; he even felt a little sorry for him. Entei would definitely give him a proper beating.
"Don't play. Take me home." Yan Yang did not want to ruin the relationship between the two brothers because of himself.
"Now that we're here, how can we not play for a while?" Raikou had brought Yan Yang to an area he often visited. He was very familiar with the environment here. It was safe, and there was no need to worry about anything going wrong.
He also wanted to build a relationship with his nephew. The child was pretty and adorable, and Raikou liked him very much.
"No." Yan Yang refused. He had never wandered around outside this late before. He felt like he was no longer a good child.
Although Yan Yang's mind was mature, deep down, he still wanted to be Entei's good child. He cared a great deal about what Entei thought of him.
Raikou did not know what to say anymore. The child did not seem to want to talk to him very much.
He's not really angry, is he? That can't be it, right? I only brought him out to play.
Don't tell me Entei has never taken him out to play at night before.
With no experience raising children, how was he supposed to know that children could not stay up late? Perhaps Pokémon young could stay up late, but human children could not.
"Play with your Second Uncle for a while. It's our first time meeting, so do me a favor, okay? We can have a happy time together." Raikou began coaxing Yan Yang. Playing was not important; what mattered was getting Yan Yang to accept him.
Yan Yang roughly understood what Raikou was thinking and reluctantly agreed.
Raikou brightened up and began bouncing around beside him.
Yan Yang thought to himself, Why does Raikou seem even more like a child than I am?
He truly had not expected Raikou to have this kind of personality.
So when they played together, he was quite enthusiastic too, letting himself have fun.
But a child's body needed sleep, and it was already very late. Yan Yang was incredibly sleepy. At this hour, he would have long since fallen asleep.
So he decisively refused Raikou's request to keep playing. He found a sheltered spot, lay down on the grass, and quickly fell asleep.
Seeing that Yan Yang had really fallen asleep, Raikou put away his playful nature. His movements became much lighter, for fear of waking the sleeping child.
Even though this spot was sheltered from the wind, sleeping outside was still a little cold.
Yan Yang's scarf was still with Litleo, so naturally, he felt somewhat cold.
Nights in the forest really were cold.
But Yan Yang was far too sleepy, so he was not awakened by the cold.
Watching Yan Yang shiver, Raikou walked over and lay down, gently pulling Yan Yang into his arms.
Though Raikou's body was not as warm as Entei's fire-type body, it was warm enough.
Yan Yang soon stopped shivering, and his breathing became more even.
He tried to burrow deeper against Raikou's belly, muttering under his breath:
"Dad... hug me..."
Raikou felt his heart race. He seemed to understand Entei's feelings a little better.
No wonder Entei treated him like a treasure. Who could resist loving such an adorable child?
Raikou was even a little jealous.
The night wind continued to blow, but it could no longer reach the sleeping child.
