At the end of the day, Anakin was a man of contradictions. He was deeply devoted to his mother and the woman he loved, yet cold and unfeeling toward his master and the Jedi. He was exceptionally gifted and loved life, but despised rules and restrictions. He longed to succeed and make something of himself, yet had never managed to fit into the Jedi power structure.
In other words, if you became Anakin's friend, he'd be a loyal and dependable one. But if you were unlucky enough to become his enemy, he'd be absolutely ruthless when he dealt with you.
Under orders from the Sith, Anakin had slaughtered everyone in the Jedi Temple, including many Jedi Younglings who were only a few years old!
