The battle on the cable car had reached its most intense moment.
Kirk and Leon stood back to back, shielding Hermione and Ashley between them as they kept firing into the Zombie Horde.
Until now, the two men had kept up the attack. Now, they were forced to hunker down, all thanks to Ashley and Hermione, two girls whose close-combat abilities were less than zero.
But a bigger problem had arisen.
As more Zombies leaped onto the cable car, its weight kept increasing. The roof groaned under the strain, clearly at its limit and unable to carry any more passengers.
But the Zombies didn't seem to realize that. They kept charging forward, one after another, leaping toward the cable car without realizing it was already full.
"Look out!" Leon pointed overhead. "We have to get out!"
Kirk gave a bitter smile.
With an abyss thousands of feet below, where could they escape to?
Even so, he was the first to open the hatch above and climb out.
Leon covered Hermione and Ashley as they followed him through the hatch.
The cable car moved slowly up and down the cableway by means of an electric system. Now Kirk saw that the steel cable attached to its roof had been stretched into an arc under the strain. It was clearly about to give way.
Kirk pointed to the cable car behind them. "We should escape to that one."
Leon climbed out. "Then we'd better hurry. They'll be up here any second."
Kirk carried Ashley on his back and jumped onto the steel cable.
