If the flying insects had all been human, Hermione's meticulous caution might have kept her from being discovered. But they were Bio-Insects with compound eyes and a field of vision spanning 180 degrees!

In other words, these freaks could stand facing forward and still see what was behind them. The moment Hermione opened the door, she alerted quite a few monsters. The light from her magic immediately revealed the effect of the Invisibility Cloak, and they let out sharp shrieks as they wheeled around and charged!

Hermione thought, This is bad! She rushed into the room, swung the door shut behind her, and slid the bolt into place. Then she cast Obstacles to reinforce it.

But the Bio-Insects had already seen through her invisibility. A horde of bugs swarmed toward the Control Room!

Hermione's face had gone pale, but she still summoned her courage and dashed to the control panel, pressing the button for one of the sluice gates!

The thousand-pound Sluice Gate slammed down. Hearing their companions shriek, several Bio-Insects charging toward them were crushed to pieces beneath the heavy gate. Streams of green water surged up from the riverbed.

But Hermione was trapped in the Control Room, too. Dozens of Invisible Monsters repeatedly stabbed the Steel Door with their sharp, scythe-like claws. The door was sturdy, but it couldn't withstand the monsters' attacks for long. Without Hermione's Obstacles spell, they would have broken through in just a few blows.

Kirk, who had been watching the whole time, sprang into action and burst out of the room.

Leon followed close behind.

Kirk raised his gun and blew the brains out of one of the flying insects surrounding the Control Room. Green matter splattered everywhere, enraging the monsters.

Some of them turned and flew toward Kirk.
