Even without looking back, Uchiha Mai knew Toroi had thrown the shuriken.

If Toroi could spare a hand to help Chiba Shin'i, Hyuuga Kagetora was probably no better off than Chiba Shin'i.

The priority was to finish Chiba Shin'i quickly, then go help Hyuuga Kagetora.

Uchiha Mai shifted his sword hand into a claw. Chakra flames sprang from his five fingers as he thrust diagonally upward toward Chiba Shin'i's head.

Chiba Shin'i had just begun to feel relieved at escaping the sword strike. He never imagined Uchiha Mai could switch to taijutsu mid-attack.

By the time he reacted and leaned back to dodge, it was too late.

Though he protected his head, Uchiha Mai's fingers still plunged into his chest.

Blue flames exploded, tearing open Chiba Shin'i's chest. The impact sent him flying backward.

"Inner: Three Hundred Eleventh Form: Split-Claw Comb!"

Uchiha Mai launched himself forward and caught up with the airborne Chiba Shin'i in a single leap. His right claw shot out and seized Chiba Shin'i by the head.

He hurled Chiba Shin'i upward, then gathered chakra and spun in midair.

Boom!

Blue flames swept around Uchiha Mai and slammed into Chiba Shin'i, striking his chest again.

By the time Uchiha Mai landed, the two blasts had hollowed out Chiba Shin'i's chest. Bone, organs, and flesh had all been blown to pieces.

All that remained was a hole some twenty or thirty centimeters across.

The blue flames absorbed Chiba Shin'i's life force and mental energy, then carried them back into Uchiha Mai.

As his chakra recovered and his injuries healed, some of the mental energy surged toward his eyes.

In his blood-red right eye, the single tomoe spun rapidly. Driven by that mental energy, it slowly split into two.
