Kakashi was recognized as an exceptional Academy prodigy. He enrolled at age four, graduated the following year, and became a Chunin at five; by the time Mai graduated, Kakashi had already spent years performing missions. 12 34

He is the son of Hatake Sakumo and trained at the Hatake residence, whose courtyard is equipped for shinobi practice. When Minato brought Mai and Guy to meet him, Kakashi was practicing Hatake Style Kenjutsu alone with his short blade. 21 22
