Time inside the barrier sped up so sharply it seemed to race ahead. The difference between the flow inside and outside grew too great for the barrier itself to bear.

The next instant, the barrier shattered. Corrective Force descended upon the Fire Style jutsu, disrupting their internal balance and causing them to explode and dissipate prematurely.

That set off a chain reaction. The surrounding jutsu, Explosive Tags, and kunai were caught up in it and exploded one after another.

In the space of a few words, the whole assault went up in smoke. With a single move, Mai had destroyed the combined jutsu barrage of dozens of ninja.

Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan looked up at the fireworks blotting out the sky, their eyes filled with shock.

Hidden in the shadows, Black-and-White Zetsu was impressed too.

What a powerful, bizarre technique. It had consumed little chakra, yet dissolved the crisis with apparent ease.

But the danger had not truly passed.

The ground began to tremble. Cracks spread across the cliffs, and loose stones pattered down. A greater disaster was coming.

Mai's expression turned grave. He considered flying into the sky to escape.

Why was this canyon so well suited to an ambush? Because the terrain favored Earth Style ninja. They needed only to disturb the ground beneath it to cause destruction on the scale of an earthquake.

In the original story, Kakashi and Obito had faced just such an attack during the Battle of Kannabi Bridge.
