How razor-sharp the High-vibration particle cutting dagger was! It sliced through the interrogation-room door with ease. Without a second thought, Zheng Zha kicked it. His tremendous strength left a deep footprint in the steel door, and the door—and the two people behind it—went flying.
At the same time, Zheng Zha took the Submachine gun and Bulletproof vest out of his Storage Ring.
The Bulletproof vest was a high-tech product. It didn't look very large, but it was highly elastic. No matter how huge the wearer was, the vest could stretch to fit their body.
Zheng Zha put it on in a couple of quick motions, with Loli strapped to his back along with it. He held the dagger in his right hand and the Submachine gun in his left, then sprinted for the exit without a moment's hesitation.
The people at the other end of the interrogation room had already erupted into chaos. They all stared, dumbfounded, as Zheng Zha produced things out of thin air. A dagger might have been hidden somewhere, but what about the Submachine gun and Bulletproof vest? The National Security Bureau wasn't made up of amateurs. How could they have failed to find those things?
As he ran, Zheng Zha studied the dagger closely. He happened to see a faint glint at the end of its handle. Feeling around, he found something about the size of a grain of rice and tossed it to the ground. In his heart, he hated Chu Xuan more than ever.
He had just run into the corridor when hurried footsteps sounded from the other end. Without thinking, he raised the Submachine gun and sprayed bullets down the corridor, then began racing toward the stairs to the third floor.
This Submachine gun was on the same technological level as the Bulletproof vest. It was immensely powerful and fired at an incredible rate. A rapid burst of gunfire rang out, leaving countless craters in the wall. Its power and rate of fire made it sound as if several Submachine guns were firing at once. The footsteps in the corridor came to an abrupt halt.
Zheng Zha moved at incredible speed. The air around him seemed to grow thick as he raced to the stairwell, then leaped down the stairs. Loli let out a shriek behind him, but the little girl was sensible enough to grit her teeth and clamp her mouth shut.
They were only stairs. Zheng Zha's Nerve Reaction Speed was astonishing. He landed steadily on the floor, pushed off, and continued down to the next floor. Gunfire erupted behind him, and the spot where he had landed was riddled with bullets.
The second floor was filling with people, but Zheng Zha didn't slow down at all. He leaped down one flight after another, moving far faster than the people chasing him. In little more than a minute, he had charged down from the third floor and out through the Public Security Bureau's front doors. The instant he emerged, a sharp crack rang out, and a bullet grazed his left leg, carving a deep bloody gash into his thigh.
"Sniper rifle?"
The sense of danger had reached its peak. Zheng Zha brought all his strength into play and pushed his Internal Force to its limit. He shot out of the Public Security Bureau like a black shadow. Bullet marks appeared all around him, but not a single bullet struck him.
Zheng Zha didn't dare stop. He zigzagged toward the main road and sprinted along it. His company was farther ahead. Its office was his only hope!
The Public Security Bureau was in complete chaos. Countless police officers and National Security Bureau agents rushed toward the police garage. On the third floor, several people shouted into their communicators. One of them was yelling excitedly when he caught sight of a faint glimmer on the floor. If the corner of the corridor hadn't been dark, he might never have noticed it.
He hurried over and picked up the rice-grain-sized object. The people around him gathered excitedly as he said, "Quick, get the technicians over here! Senior Colonel Chu Xuan actually removed the Locator message device! He must have left some information inside..."
Zheng Zha had no idea what was happening back at the Public Security Bureau. After he had raced a thousand meters down the main road, the gunfire behind him finally stopped. He still didn't dare let his guard down. He kept running erratically for several hundred more meters, until a sedan came up behind him. Then he abruptly stepped in front of it.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed, you—" The driver was a blond young man, with a stylishly dressed beauty beside him.
Zheng Zha didn't waste words. He fired a burst at the roadside, then pointed the Submachine gun at the young man. "Get out!"
The young man was quick to comply. He dragged the beauty out of the car without a word. Zheng Zha scrambled into the driver's seat and had just managed to bring Loli around in front of him when bullets began pounding into the car behind them. With a sharp crash, a bullet pierced the sedan and shattered both the front and rear windows.
Zheng Zha slammed on the accelerator and punched out the entire windshield. Sirens blared behind him. Only after the sedan had begun picking up speed did he manage to glance back. The sight nearly scared him to death: at least a dozen police cars were in hot pursuit, and many people were firing handguns at him.
The blond young man and the beauty were too stunned to speak. Only after more than a dozen police cars had passed did the young woman cry out, "Oh my god, a shootout! It's a shootout! This is so cool..."
The blond young man was about to echo her excitement when a gust of wind roared over their heads. They hurriedly looked up and saw three helicopters flying down the road. The two young people were left staring in a daze all over again.
Zheng Zha was intensely focused. His mind held nothing but the road ahead, and the sedan was going faster and faster, overtaking the occasional car. But the police cars behind him pursued relentlessly, giving him no chance to catch his breath. There were more and more of them, and, even more absurdly, Zheng Zha could see three helicopters tailing him overhead.
"Damn it, is Chu Xuan really that precious? They've sent this many people after him..."
Zheng Zha laughed bitterly to himself. Before he could finish speaking, a sharp crack rang out. His left hand suddenly went numb as a bullet shot from a helicopter at an angle and pierced right through it. For a moment, he couldn't even grip the steering wheel, and the sedan nearly slammed into the guardrail.
Zheng Zha gritted his teeth and clamped his left hand around the steering wheel. Although the bones in his palm had been shattered, he could still steer if he kept his hand clenched. With his other hand, he pressed Loli tightly against his chest and stomped the accelerator to the floor.
The sniper in the helicopter fired several more shots, but at such high speed, they couldn't hit their target. They also didn't dare shoot the sedan's tires. If it flipped at that speed, the people inside would certainly die!
The sedan was drawing closer to the company. Once they got past a bend, they would be able to see its office tower. Before Zheng Zha could feel excited, a field of white light suddenly appeared before him. Dozens of police cars had blocked the road, and searchlights had turned the night into a blinding expanse of white.
"Loli..." Zheng Zha murmured.
"Hmm?" Loli had kept her head buried against Zheng Zha's chest. She couldn't see anything and could only give a muffled little response.
"Loli... We won't die. We absolutely won't! Whether in the real world or in a Horror Movie... we'll survive!"
"Ah!!!"
Zheng Zha bowed his head and stomped on the accelerator. He pushed the sedan to its limit. Despite the police firing handguns at the car, it didn't slow down for a moment. With a thunderous crash, it smashed through three police cars and sped onward. But its speed finally dropped, and the sniper in the helicopter immediately pulled the trigger. A gunshot rang out, and the sedan's tire burst. It lurched forward for several thousand meters before crashing headfirst into the roadside guardrail.
Zheng Zha slammed into the steering wheel. It shattered completely, and a jagged edge tore a long gash across his forehead. Blood streamed down his face, making him look terrifying. A second or two after the crash, he recovered from the impact. Without hesitation, he picked up the dagger and slashed at the car door.
The dagger sliced through the door with ease. He kicked hard, sending it flying more than ten meters away. Gunfire erupted as it passed.
He didn't stop to think. He strapped Loli onto his back again, grabbed the Submachine gun, and charged out. After firing several bursts, he began sprinting toward the company. He could now see the building with his own eyes. It was only a little over a thousand meters away.
Meanwhile, a crowd had gathered around a group of researchers at the Public Security Bureau. The researchers were tapping away at a laptop. One of them suddenly shouted, "We cracked it! The password really is Senior Colonel Chu Xuan's personal password!"
Everyone hurried over. On the screen, Chu Xuan was speaking continuously. At the same time, the printer connected to the laptop began printing out blueprints. But nobody paid any attention to them. They all stared, dumbfounded, at Chu Xuan on the screen. Only when the entire document had finished playing did they look at one another with bewildered expressions.
The researchers rushed over to the printed pages and leafed through the blueprints, utterly entranced. One after another, their expressions turned strange.
"It's real, it's all real! Hahaha, this is a Stable hydrogen fusion reactor! Hahaha, holy shit, a stable hydrogen fusion reactor..."
"It's all real! This is a Gauss long-range cannon! Wang spent his whole life researching this and never managed to finish it..."
"This is the formula for a High-efficiency battery! Hahaha, this thing really exists! Li, you died too soon—wah..."
As the people around them watched the researchers laughing and crying, their own expressions grew even stranger. One of them shouted, "Damn it, contact the people up ahead! Call off everyone pursuing him! Nobody fires another shot... Right, come up with a decent excuse to send the four old men back. And also..."
Zheng Zha had only run a little over a hundred meters from the car when he vaulted a guardrail. A sharp crack rang out, and his left thighbone was struck. His thigh was instantly drenched in blood, and he fell to the ground. Another bullet pierced his right leg, leaving both legs almost completely unable to move.
I can't die... I can't die! I absolutely can't die!
Zheng Zha screamed with all his might. He drove his Internal Force nearly to its limit, and that same feeling—as if something had unlocked—returned. The pain in his thighs vanished in an instant. Then, using both hands and legs, he crawled forward like a four-legged animal. He moved much faster than an ordinary person could run. And after unlocking the Gene lock, his danger instincts had grown several times sharper. Each time, he dodged to the side before the gunfire even rang out. His speed and bizarre crawling gait left the snipers in the helicopters stunned.
The company building was drawing ever closer, but the road ahead was a straight, open stretch. The company's front entrance was tightly shut, so he would have to break through it and get inside. But that would leave him standing in front of the doors for one or two seconds—long enough for a sniper to blow his head off several times over. He couldn't be sure the snipers really wanted to take him alive. It was too dangerous to find out.
"Ah!!!"
Zheng Zha's eyes were bloodshot. There was no time left for hesitation. He gripped the dagger in his right hand and shook it violently. He was moving so fast he seemed like a black shadow. Just before he reached the company entrance, he leaped more than four meters into the air and brought the dagger down with all his strength. The doors were split open in an instant, and Zheng Zha felt a violent jolt run through his body.
The people in the helicopters weren't merely shocked anymore. They were terrified. Anyone would be astonished, even frightened, to suddenly see a person leap four meters into the air. They watched helplessly as Zheng Zha rolled inside the company. Only one of them managed to shoot him in the back.
The moment Zheng Zha hit the ground, he rolled and sprang back up. Without thinking, he ran toward the emergency stairwell. His stamina was more than enough for this short flight of stairs, and he didn't slow down at all.
"We did it, Loli! We made it... We'll survive for sure. Neither of us will... Loli?"
As he ran, Zheng Zha suddenly realized something was wrong with Loli. He pulled her off his back and into his arms. His hand came away wet. He stopped abruptly and saw that her waist was soaked in blood. The Bulletproof vest hadn't covered that spot. The bullet had entered through her back and exited through her abdomen. As he held her, it fell to the ground between them.
