The newcomer was not one of the Shadowlands beings Uther knew.
He watched her warily and saw that there was no solid body inside the armor. Instead, a shifting mass of light and shadow, like the flame above her head, flickered within.
Noticing Uther's gaze, the strange outsider introduced herself freely. "My name is Ve'nari, an Ethereal merchant."
"What do you want with me?" Even though she had taken the initiative to speak about herself, Uther's guard did not drop.
"I came to find you because of a prophecy. Because you are the chosen one." Ve'nari, a flame wrapped in a suit of armor, was still saying things that made no sense.
Uther said coldly, "I am no chosen one. Nor am I the person from your prophecy!"
"That's excellent. You are yourself!" Ve'nari immediately agreed. She walked up enthusiastically and showed Uther the goods she had for sale. "Perhaps you need some equipment, or some information. We Ethereals do business in every corner of the universe, whether it's goods or intelligence."
Faced with this merchant who had attached herself to him of her own accord, Uther immediately thought of the Goblins of Azeroth: the same pointed ears and sharp teeth, the same small stature, and the same willingness to trade in absolutely anything.
So he turned and left, not wanting to deal with Ve'nari, who did business in the Shadowlands. He was afraid that if he listened to her pitch any longer, he would have to pay some price to buy her goods.
"Hey! Don't go!" Ve'nari had spent countless years in The Maw and had seen all sorts of souls. The most important part of doing business was dealing with them and finding out what they desired deep inside.
