The Fall of Undercity

Though Garithos, far away in the Eastern Plaguelands, was an extreme racist who deeply despised Sylvanas and the Forsaken, and though Sylvanas harbored bitter resentment toward him for his massacre of the Forsaken, Garithos's territory and the lands ruled by Sylvanas did not overlap. There was no conflict between them, and they had managed to leave each other in peace.

Unfortunately, once someone started meddling, even people with nothing to do with each other could be brought together, whether as allies or sworn enemies.

The Scarlet Crusade had begun by merely purging the Scourge, but it grew increasingly extreme and gradually turned its blades on the Forsaken. They even killed many innocent civilians, suspecting that some of them had been turned into Undead. Before long, the Scarlet Crusade's territory was gripped by fear, and everyone lived in terror.

Meanwhile, Turalyon, who was leading an expedition into the Western Plaguelands, knew nothing of this. It was all the doing of Tirion Fordring's son, Taelan Fordring. Taelan had also secretly contacted Garithos, far away in the Eastern Plaguelands, and asked him to retake Lordaeron City, which the Forsaken occupied, as soon as the Scarlet Crusade and the Forsaken went to war. Garithos agreed to the request without hesitation.

So Taelan resolutely launched an attack on the Forsaken, and Sylvanas personally led troops to the front lines to hold back the Scarlet Crusade's frenzied assault.

When Taelan heard that Sylvanas had gone to the front lines, he attacked even more fiercely and without regard for the cost. His aim was to keep Sylvanas occupied.
