Garithos was neither tall nor handsome, but his strong arms and resolute, courageous nature had made him a leader his subordinates could trust. Now he sat upon the throne where the members of House Menethil had once sat, his right hand rubbing the armrest again and again. As he looked at the palace, once splendid and gilded, now desolate and crumbling, sadness welled up within him. Garithos did not mourn the fall of the once-glorious House Menethil, nor the ruin of this extravagant palace. What saddened him was the shattering of once-mighty Lordaeron, and the misery and wandering of humanity in the present.
No one knew how long Garithos sat upon the throne. When he finally emerged from his reverie, he sprang to his feet, stepped forward, then turned to face it. After a long moment of thought, he drew his sword and struck in one fluid motion. The throne, a symbol of House Menethil's glory, the strength of the Kings of Lordaeron, and humanity's once-happy, peaceful life, was cleaved in two. Garithos sheathed his sword, turned, and left the palace without looking back.
"Lord Garithos, why did you destroy the throne?"
Only after they had left the palace did the adjutant following Garithos dare to ask. It was no other reason than that the killing intent radiating from Garithos inside the palace had been so intense that the adjutant hadn't dared speak.
"That throne represented humanity's past glory. But what we must do is create a glorious future for humanity. The past is worth remembering, but it is absolutely not worth losing ourselves in. I destroyed that throne to remind myself to learn from the examples of House Menethil and Lordaeron and never repeat their mistakes. I will make humanity rule all of Azeroth, and make every nonhuman race
