After a night of revelry, the feast in Alterac Mountains had ended on a high note. The next day, the Horde and Alliance finally settled on a route for their northern campaign.

They would set out from Alterac Mountains and head straight north for Icecrown Glacier. It was simple, but also the most effective route. The biggest obstacle to this plan was Utgarde, which stood just beyond Alterac Mountains.

The Vrykul had built Utgarde from simple materials with crude workmanship, but their great size and strength had allowed them to make it tall and sturdy. The Scourge had also swallowed up much of the place. If they chose to bypass Utgarde without dealing with it...

The Allied forces would have to leave enough troops behind to hold it. But they had no precise intelligence on how many Scourge or Vrykul were inside, so they had no way of knowing how many soldiers would be enough. That made Utgarde a ticking time bomb. If they left it alone, it could explode at any moment, threatening Alterac Mountains and the supply lines behind it.

The Allied forces had to pull out the thorn that was Utgarde. The Horde and Alliance still needed to discuss how.

In the end, the Horde decided to enlist the Nerubians' help to dig tunnels beneath Utgarde and attack from below, while the Alliance would use its advantage in helicopters and mortars to attack from above. The frontal assault would serve as a feint, leaving one side open as they surrounded the fortress on three sides. Once either the Horde's underground assault or the Alliance's aerial attack succeeded, the feint would become a full-scale assault, and they would take Utgarde in one decisive blow.
