In a sense, Lancer was the natural predator for Sea Monsters, creatures with tenacious vitality and terrifying regenerative abilities.
The Rose of Purity could bypass magical defenses and easily tear apart a monster's body, while the Rose of Annihilation could completely negate the target's recovery abilities, stripping monsters of their greatest advantage.
Unfortunately, that was only in theory, the white owl mused, watching Lancer charge forward.
It was a rather awkward situation. The Rose of Purity was 2 meters long, and the Rose of Annihilation was 1.4 meters. The target of this hunt was a colossal beast that had burst through the church with its sheer size, an abnormal demon whose tentacles alone were dozens of meters long.
It was like a hero going to hunt a rampaging evil dragon with a fruit knife enchanted with dragon-slaying properties. Although the hero's every strike could make the dragon howl in pain, it was practically useless.
If only Lancer had brought those two Demon Swords, Li Zihan thought with a hint of regret as he observed the battle through the owl. With the Demon Swords, Lancer would possess an Anti-City Noble Phantasm, and defeating the Sea Monster would be a matter of minutes.
The Sea Monster had to die, and it had to die in a way that made sense, otherwise, all the acting Li Zihan had done up to this point would be meaningless.
He pressed his temples, alleviating the pressure from multitasking, and issued a command to Berserker. "Unleash your power, don't hold back. If necessary, you can release your Hundred-Headed Dragon form, but do not use it as an Anti-City attack."
Berserker immediately let out a joyous growl, like a hunter on the prowl. His eyes gleamed with a bloody light, and an endless killing intent emanated from him. In that moment, he was like a ferocious beast emerging from barren earth, grinding his teeth and sucking blood, ready to tear apart and trample everything in his path.
Li Zihan had to admit that Alcaeus was a good actor. Even though he had regained his sanity, he was performing as if he possessed EX-rank Madness Enhancement. If Li Zihan hadn't known the truth beforehand, he himself would have believed Alcaeus had completely lost his mind.
His massive body moved with the same agility as Lancer, leaping forward, cutting through the air, and soaring into the distance amidst the whistling wind.
The Great Axe descended from the heavens, carrying unparalleled divine power as it struck the ground like a meteor. The earth itself seemed to sink, and the trees near the church were blown away by the shockwave, crashing ten meters away. The colossal black god rose from the three-meter-deep crater, his face filled with bloodthirsty combat intent.
The ground beneath his feet had already turned a dark green, undoubtedly the bodily fluids of the Sea Monster's tentacles hidden underground.
So strong, Lancer thought, his expression grave as he looked at Alcaeus. He had to admit that he was absolutely no match for Berserker.
Unless he reclaimed all his equipment from his life – his twin swords, twin pistols, and a single blade – he wouldn't stand a chance. Fighting Berserker head-on would only lead to his defeat sooner or later, Lancer mused. It seemed that after this battle, he would have to advise his Lord to unite with other Masters to confront Berserker.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Kirei wore a look of curiosity typical of a researcher. He had learned of Berserker's combat record through his Familiar. However, more than that, he was concerned about another issue: would Li Zihan's summoning of such a high-consumption Heroic Spirit truly be sustainable?
"Magecraft Core," Li Zihan replied. He was extremely grateful that he had turned Caster into a Humanoid Battery earlier. Otherwise, if Alcaeus unleashed his ultimate attack twice, he'd collapse on the streets of Fuyuki.
Not every Mage was a Humanoid Nuclear Power Plant like Illya. At the very least, the Magic Power Li Zihan's Magic Circuits could provide was like an Archer in comparison to Illya, whose entire body was composed of Magic Circuits.
"It seems your Magecraft Core is of good quality," Kirei said, his questions answered. He himself had brought three Magecraft Cores: one to supply Lancer with Magic Power, one to power his Noble Phantasm, and one kept as a spare.
In this Holy Grail War, no one understood the effect of Magecraft Cores better than he did.
Waver, who had never seen a Magecraft Core in his life, nearly shed tears of poverty upon hearing the extravagant remarks of the other two Masters.
Aren't Magecraft Cores family heirlooms? Why are you discussing their quality so casually?
"Don't worry about it," Li Zihan said, noticing Waver's distress. "One day, you'll also have days where you carry three Magecraft Cores with you."
Kirei frowned, feeling that there was more to Li Zihan's words than met the eye.
Unlike the peaceful interactions between Masters, the battlefield against the Sea Monster was utterly brutal.
In fact, from the very beginning, this battle was intended to descend into despair; it was a deadly war of attrition. Although Lancer, Rider, and Berserker's weapons continuously struck the Sea Monster's massive body, the Sea Monster also received extremely ferocious attacks from the three Servants. The greatsword that cleaved through rock, the Thunderous Hooves, and the Divine Blessed Magic Spear left one scar after another on the Sea Monster's surface without mercy.
Even a Dragon, at the apex of Phantasmal Species, would have perished under such an assault.
However, this Great Sea Monster was simply too enormous, and its regenerative capabilities were excessively strong. The damage inflicted by the combined attacks of the three Servants was still significantly less than the Sea Monster's regeneration.
The writhing mass of flesh swelled like a balloon, and the wounds inflicted moments ago were instantly filled with new flesh. The parts that were about to be destroyed were repaired.
