Background / History

The Diary appears in Ao Yao’s mind when his Soul Power has remained at level ten for years. It promises rewards for consistent entries and offers a beginner’s gift package with a guaranteed hundredfold critical strike for his first entry. Ao Yao initially resists writing, then accepts the offer 1.

Ning Tian receives a shimmering golden copy labeled “Ao Yao’s Diary, Ning Tian’s Exclusive Version.” Other recipients also gain copies and access to the Diary Instance Chat Group, initially without Ao Yao’s knowledge 1 2. Its revelations about possible futures prompt readers to change their plans, while its rewards give them a reason to seek mentions in Ao Yao’s entries 5 7 47.

Abilities & Functions

Entry rewards

• The Diary distributes random rewards when Ao Yao completes a day’s writing. Critical strikes can upgrade them; his beginner’s package grants Soul Power, Martial Soul evolution, Soul Rings, and the Grand Xuan Scripture 2 6.
• Rewards shown later include Soul Tools, Soul Bones, Martial Soul Fusion Skills, crafting materials, and a Heavenly Demon Puppet 36 46 50 57.
• It can request a subject for an entry. Ao Yao’s brief daily log is rejected as insufficiently substantial 1 76.

Copies and reader rewards

• Copies let recipients read Ao Yao’s entries as he writes them. Holders include humans and Soul Beasts 1 2 7.
• After each day’s entry, the copy holder mentioned most frequently receives a reward. Documented rewards include Soul Power increases, older Soul Rings, Soul Bones, Martial Soul evolution, and concealment from Tang San’s perception 2 6 14 57.
• The rewards can address a recipient’s circumstances: the Ice Empress survives her four-hundred-thousand-year Heavenly Tribulation through a Diary reward, while Gu Yuena receives healing and an increase in peak strength 42 54.

Diary Instance Chat Group

• Holders communicate through a chat interface displayed on a jade stone and may use nicknames 2.
• The most active member each day receives the title Water Spraying Dragon King and can designate the general subject of the next entry. Malicious spamming is prohibited 2.
• A designated subject does not guarantee mentions or rewards for the member who chose it: Wang Dong’er requests an entry about Huo Yuhao but finds that her own name does not appear 8.

Rules & Penalties

• Members must not reveal the group or their diary copies to anyone, including Ao Yao. They must not harm him directly or indirectly, or slander him in the group. The rules prescribe punishments ranging from flogging and severe pain to erasure 2.
• The system can also punish a holder when Ao Yao discovers their ability to read the Diary. Ning Tian’s Martial Soul regresses after her Soul Rings expose her; when Ao Yao identifies Wang Dong’er as another reader, part of her earlier concealment reward is reclaimed. Wang Dong’er’s punishment is reduced because she had not voluntarily revealed her copy 35 71.
• Gu Yuena finds herself unable to mention the Diary in Di Tian’s presence, but can discuss it with another copy holder, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion. Considering the capture of Ao Yao brings her an immediate, painful lash 9.
