Fire Attack (Part One)

By noon, the demons across Qiming Mountain had been completely wiped out.

Soon after, good news arrived from the natives as well. Although their movements had been spotted in advance, they had reacted quickly and launched an attack in time to make up for their losses.

They had Robertson's red signal flare to thank for that. If the natives hadn't seen the signal for the attack, they might have turned around and retreated.

He ordered the soldiers to eat and rest where they were. Renard and the other senior officers gathered on an open area at the summit to discuss what to do next.

Renard spoke first. "For now, we'll use Qiming Mountain as a base for our main force. It's only five kilometers from Amboya Mountain, and its location is excellent. We can attack from here or defend it if we need to..."

After Master Lei finished, everyone began sharing their views.

Duke Edmond disagreed. Frowning, he said, "Qiming Mountain is too large. I'm afraid our twenty thousand men won't be enough to defend it."

He had a point. Twenty thousand sounded like a huge number, but Qiming Mountain stood over a thousand meters tall, and its slopes were fairly gentle. The whole mountain probably covered dozens of square kilometers.

Forget defending the entire mountain—even if twenty thousand men lined up along the halfway point, they could probably only circle it twice at most.
