Miss Heidi couldn't help smiling. Then she reached into the snow-white neckline of her dress and pulled out a ring threaded onto a necklace. "The Anufas Ring. It summons a mage to help in battle."

After a moment's thought, Renard answered honestly. "The Bloody Knight Ring should summon a Battle Qi Warrior to help in battle."

The two rings sounded impressive, but they weren't. They merely summoned some kind of spirit creature to fight, and alchemists had sealed those creatures inside the rings after summoning them from some unknown plane.

That was how Miss Heidi's Anufas Ring worked. Whether Renard's Bloody Knight Ring worked the same way was unknown.

After thinking it over several times, he agreed to her request. In return for lending her the Bloody Knight Ring for a month, she would brew the Blood Tempering Potion for him.

The days that followed were peaceful, with work from sunrise to sunset.

Renard's martial arts improved tremendously through constant practice. His rapid progress left Colliver astonished, and in the end, he could only attribute it to some elusive talent.

A few days later, Renard suddenly received bad news: the First System had awakened, and the two systems had begun fighting for control.
