Dragon Qi Cultivation

• Their abilities are poorly suited to direct close-quarters combat against demons and monsters 26.
• Their lifespans remain short regardless of cultivation strength 71 79.

Terrain Perception

Advanced Celestial Masters can perceive terrain and threats beyond ordinary sight.

• Ugly Slave identifies a wolf pack and python nest beyond a mountain without entering the canyon 19.
• Second-Rank Celestial Masters can survey land across dozens of miles 36.
• A concealed Celestial Master detects Ning Xuan’s approach from ten li away, updating the distance as he closes in 53.

Earth Evasion

Earth-escape techniques allow Celestial Masters to move through the ground or drastically reduce travel distance.

• The Earth Evasion Realm permits travel equivalent to a mile per step under ideal conditions 19.
• A Celestial Master can use earth escape to extract a protected target from danger, though sudden attacks may prevent its activation 53.
• Second-Rank Celestial Masters can use low-level earth-escape techniques almost instantly, but not endlessly or without daily limits 41.

Celestial Master Seal

A Celestial Master Seal is the defining manifestation of a true Celestial Master and a primary weapon against Yao and Mo.

• Seals can suppress souls and bodies, leaving targets unable to move 19.
• A First-Rank seal can be used directly as a crushing weapon; it may even be transformed into a golden mountain for greater impact 41.
• Tian Youzi’s Third-Rank Great Seal covers Shanyang Prefecture, forces demons into suppression, and enables Human Demon servants to execute them 62.
• A seal’s sustained use consumes energy; a Celestial Master cannot maintain it indefinitely and cannot keep it active while asleep 65.

Limitations

• Celestial Masters are physically frail despite their supernatural abilities; Ning Xuan notes that an ordinary household servant could overpower Ugly Slave in raw physical strength 19.
• They require powerful Daoist Boys to guard them, resist nearby demons, and kill creatures trapped by their spells 26.
• Casting spells may require closing their eyes and meditating, creating vulnerability in battle 26.
• Demonic qi can obscure truth and falsehood, making demon arts especially dangerous to their perception 28.
• Dragon Qi cultivators and Taiyin Ghost Cultivators use fundamentally different power systems; a ghost possessing a Celestial Master can wield the host’s abilities but can no longer cultivate Dragon Qi 71.

Daoist Boys

Daoist Boys serve as the Celestial Master’s armed protectors and field executioners.

• They are expected to confront demons at close range while the Celestial Master casts spells or maintains a seal 26.

• Celestial Masters lead or support major demon-suppression forces alongside generals, troops, martial artists, and Daoist Boys 20.
• They can designate demon-infested regions as forbidden areas and later participate in organized encirclement campaigns 20.
• Their seals and earth-escape techniques form the foundation of the imperial response to demon disasters, while Demon-Plague Warriors and generals provide the physical force needed to finish trapped enemies 26 62.
• The institution is compromised by the Purple Cloud Demonic Sect’s infiltration: Tian Youzi’s apparently orthodox purple seal conceals black ghostly entities after his vessel is destroyed 65 68.
