Background

Taiga lived in the United States, where he struggled with loneliness and a language barrier until Tatsuya Himuro invited him to play basketball and offered to teach him. Himuro became the person who introduced Taiga to the sport and was regarded by Taiga as an older brother. 97 249

Taiga and Himuro played numerous one-on-one games. Their 99th match became a breaking point: Taiga hesitated after noticing Himuro's injured arm, missed his opportunity to finish the game, and lost. Himuro threw down his necklace and declared that they were no longer brothers. 107
