Yan Si helped bring Gremmy into the Eleventh Division while Kurayashiki died and Chiziro Sochika was imprisoned after losing to Unohana. As Soul Society faced growing threats, Gremmy became Kenpachi, and Yan Si encountered the young Rangiku and Gin in Rukongai.

• Yan Si helped Chiziro Sochika challenge Kurayashiki Kenpachi, but Gremmy’s invasion interrupted the duel and Yan Si defeated Gremmy after Yamamoto ordered him to use his full power.
• Chiziro killed Kurayashiki and became Kenpachi, while Yan Si arranged for Hikifune to preserve Kurayashiki in suspended death.
• Yamamoto trained Yan Si in combat, Reiatsu control, and Kidō, while Chiziro later surrendered and was imprisoned in Muken.

Yan Si uncovered the truth about his severed desire and fought in the Quincy war, then his lost desire manifested as a powerful King who attacked Seireitei. As Yan Si hid his connection to the invasion, Aizen stole a Soul King Fragment from Rangiku, and Gin brought her to Yan Si for help.

• Yan Si learned from Urahara that Xiao Wen had formed from a piece of his soul that had been cut away, and he recognized that Tsuzurimono Bansho embodied his missing desire.
• Yan Si and Tōsen joined the campaign against the Quincy, where Yan Si spared a cave full of Quincy children but the battle unleashed a rift through which Great Hollows poured into the Human World.
• Yan Si and the captains fought the Great Hollows until Hikifune sealed the rift with barrels of concentrated souls, and Yan Si met Kūgo Ginjō before returning to Soul Society.
• Yan Si tested the Tenshintai without success, then awoke from his hot spring in a red-mist world with a powerful new form and invaded Seireitei as the King.
• The King fought Shiba Isshin, Ōtoribashi Rōjūrō, and Yamamoto, then vanished after Yamamoto stopped his attack on the Royal Palace.

Yan Si recruited allies, explored the powers tied to his Asauchi, and helped Kūgo Ginjō establish himself as a Shinigami in the Human World. He returned to Soul Society and pushed Urahara Kisuke and Kurotsuchi Mayuri to investigate the fusion behind the Adjuchas he had fought.

• Yan Si recruited Gin Ichimaru into the Ninth Division, captured Hyorinmaru as a temporary Zanpakutō, and helped Byakuya marry Hisana and become head of the Kuchiki family.
• Yan Si accepted Kaname Tōsen’s transfer to the Third Division, then sparred with Yamamoto and watched Rangiku graduate into the Ninth Division.
• Yan Si discovered that his Asauchi contained intertwined Hollow and Quincy powers, manifested both abilities, and used Quincy power to contain the unstable Soul Jade.

• Yan Si declined the Twelfth Division captaincy, helped Urahara Kisuke pursue it, and uncovered Kaname Tōsen’s Bankai for Urahara before confronting his suppressed anger and resolving to reach the Royal Palace.
• Yan Si arranged diversions for Hikifune Kirio’s promotion ceremony, and Yamamoto selected Urahara Kisuke as the new Twelfth Division captain while preparing to use the Royal Palace passage as bait.
• Yan Si rushed to the Royal Palace during Hikifune Kirio’s promotion, took Sayafushi, killed Ōetsu Nimaiya, and fought Ichibē Hyōsube before reaching the sealed Soul King and escaping to the Human World.
