The Failed Pursuit
Bi Fan was now fleeing with the Rin Shen Saber he had snatched. He was moving more than twice as fast as before, and couldn't help laughing. "This dark, ugly thing doesn't look like much, but it sure works great!"
Xuan Chen replied with an amused, helpless smile. "This saber has quite a history. If I'm not mistaken, it belonged to a human saber master many years ago. It was called the Rin Shen Saber. With his Rin Shen Saber Technique, that master cut down every faithless and dishonorable man under heaven. Back in those days, he was renowned across the land."
"It has that much history?" Bi Fan couldn't help glancing down at the blade, black as ink but clearly incomplete. A hint of puzzlement entered his eyes. "But why does it look like it was broken?"
"That's a story in itself." Xuan Chen paused to gather his thoughts, then explained briefly, "As the story goes, the saber master split the Rin Shen Saber in two for the sake of the woman he loved. After that, the saber master who had shaken the world withdrew from the martial world for good. No one knew where he went, and the broken Rin Shen Saber vanished along with him."
Bi Fan gave a wry laugh. He hadn't expected the blade's original owner to be such a romantic.
As he marveled at that, another question came to mind. "If the Rin Shen Saber belonged to the human race, how did it end up in the hands of someone from the Devil Race? That Man in Black didn't look like anyone of high rank, yet he owned such a remarkable treasure. Is the Devil Race really that wealthy?"
Xuan Chen's brow furrowed slightly. He clearly didn't know the answer either,
