Shi Miao sighed and said helplessly, "You might not know this, but my brother needs money to pay the electric bill. Otherwise, the property management will notify our landlord and kick us out."
Wan Xing looked at Wang Yue and saw that Shi Miao didn't seem to be joking. He asked uncertainly, "How much can an electric bill be? Are there really people in this world so poor they can't afford electricity?"
Shi Miao almost reached out to smack him on the head, but then remembered that Wan Xing was a genius. If she accidentally hit him so hard she made him stupid, she couldn't afford to compensate him.
So she reluctantly withdrew her hand and said, not without resentment, "There are plenty of poor people these days. It's just that people like you, sitting high above everyone else, hardly ever see them."
She'd actually wanted to say that those people didn't want to see the poor, but since they were all classmates, she felt that would be too sharp a thing to say.
Wan Xing still didn't believe her. He asked uncertainly, "Then I'll go to your house and see for myself. I want to know just how poor your family is."
Shi Miao glared at him and said, displeased, "What, do you want to make fun of me?"
Wan Xing was smart, but he was still a child and didn't understand social niceties very well. He asked, bewildered, "Why would I make fun of you?"
They stared at each other, both stubbornly sticking to their own opinions, neither willing to back down.
Wang Yue shook his head helplessly and reminded them, "Shi Miao, Miaomiao and I already know what your family's situation is. Have we ever looked down on you? It's fine to let Wan Xing see, too."
