You're the First Woman I Ever Wanted to Marry

More than ten days after Ruan Wan's birthday, Wang Yue received an email from Jinling. He printed it out and set it at the edge of his desk. Then he looked at Ruan Wan, busy at work outside, and wondered when and in what setting he should give it to her.

Late one day, Wang Yue received another email. After reading it carefully, he looked up at the office area outside. Ruan Wan was working overtime again; by now, she was the only one left.

After wrapping up his work, Wang Yue pulled out the document he had prepared long ago. It was much thicker than before.

"Guan Guan, let's go. I restocked last night and got some fresh steak. I'll treat you to a late-night snack!" Wang Yue walked over to Ruan Wan's desk and tapped on it.

"Sure! Wait a moment!" Ruan Wan glanced at Wang Yue, who was standing there looking slightly tired, and didn't refuse. Her voice was gentle.

"Okay. Is there anything I can help with?" Wang Yue asked casually.

"No need. I'll be done in a second."

By the time it took to drink a cup of coffee, Ruan Wan had shut down her computer and left with Wang Yue.

After locking the front door, they returned home. As soon as they entered, Wang Yue was about to get busy, but Ruan Wan told him to rest and said she would handle it.

However, Wang Yue didn't sit back and enjoy himself. Instead, he helped out. Luckily, it was an open kitchen—otherwise, there really wouldn't have been room for both of them.

As Wang Yue worked, he watched Ruan Wan. Occasionally, she seemed to notice his gaze and would glance back with a smile, leaving Wang Yue dazed every time. The atmosphere was somewhat intimate, just like that of newlywed young spouses. Before they knew it, they had made a simple late-night meal.

Once the food was on the table, Wang Yue went to the wine cabinet and took out a bottle of red wine, gesturing to Ruan Wan. Only after she nodded did he open it. That show of respect pleased her greatly.

They sat together, poured the wine, and clinked glasses. After taking a sip, Ruan Wan suddenly said, "Go on. I can tell you have something important to tell me!"

Wang Yue had just brought the wine to his lips and hadn't even swallowed when he nearly sprayed it out.

"You really are a clever woman. I still haven't mastered keeping my composure." Wang Yue sighed.

"You've been sneaking glances at me all this time. They noticed ages ago. Otherwise, why do you think they've all been leaving early lately?" Ruan Wan smiled.

"Fine. Have they been betting on what day I'd come looking for you?" Wang Yue laughed at himself. He was still far behind Great God Xiao Nai.

"Yes. Actually, I was curious too!" Ruan Wan snickered.

"Fine, I admit I do like you. You're the kind of woman who makes people want to go home after spending more time with you. But that's not what this is about today." Wang Yue's skin was thick enough by now, and his slightly scheming side took the chance to confess his feelings.

"Is that so? I'm grateful that you like me, but..." Hearing Wang Yue confirm it, Ruan Wan's heart felt sweet. Still, rational as she was, she was about to turn him down.

"Look at this first. I was going to tell you after we finished eating!" Seeing that she wanted to refuse him, Wang Yue hurriedly interrupted her.

"What is this?" Ruan Wan's cheeks were flushed. Whether it was from the wine or something else, she didn't know.

"See for yourself." Wang Yue didn't want to say anything that might hurt her. He had been the one to bring it up.

"Okay." Ruan Wan opened the folder.

The folder contained photographs arranged by date, each marked with a specific time.

After an unknown amount of time, Ruan Wan was already crying. In a voice thick with tears, she asked, "When did you investigate this?"

"Actually, it was a coincidence. Do you remember when I went to Jinling?" Seeing how strong this girl was trying to be, Wang Yue didn't feel any better.

"I remember. Boss Wang taking on a whole crowd of rich women by himself!" Thinking of it, Ruan Wan's mood instantly improved a little.

"That day, I saw Zhao Shiyong going sweetly into a café with a girl!" Wang Yue had a headache over this joke and had no idea when it would end.

"You didn't know him then, did you?" Ruan Wan asked doubtfully.

"No. On your birthday, when Zhao Shiyong came, I recognized him. That's when I started investigating him." Wang Yue continued in detail. "Actually, I just got another piece of news, but I'm not entirely sure about it."

"What news?" Ruan Wan felt the photos in the folder were already shocking enough. What could be worse?

"That girl might be pregnant," Wang Yue said uncertainly.

"P-Pregnant?" Ruan Wan was stunned.

"Yes. And I heard that Zhao Shiyong doesn't dare take that girl to the hospital himself." Wang Yue paused, looked at Ruan Wan's expression, then checked his watch before continuing. "He's on his way here now! Maybe he just got on the train!"

"Looking for me?" Ruan Wan was alarmed and uncertain.

"Yes. I'm guessing he doesn't want to personally take someone for an abortion. After all, signing the papers would leave a record, and it could affect his future career in politics. He wants you to sign, making it look like you were the one who had the procedure!" Wang Yue guessed.

"Why me?" Ruan Wan was beginning to despair.

"He knows you. He thinks you'll help him—and keep it a secret for him!" Wang Yue gave a bitter smile. "And I think that man doesn't deserve you. That's why I told you before he got here. I was afraid you'd do something foolish."

"Drink with me!" Tears streaming down her face, Ruan Wan drained her glass in one gulp.

"Okay!" Wang Yue drained his as well.

Bang, bang, bang.

Bang, bang, bang.

"Who is it? What a racket!" Wang Yue was a little groggy. He tried to prop himself up, but his hand landed on something smooth and soft.

Wang Yue opened his eyes and saw the beauty in his arms, curled up like a kitten. Her eyelashes trembled faintly, and he knew Guan Guan was already awake. The little beast in his heart could no longer be contained and began to stir restlessly.

Just then, the beauty in his arms could no longer pretend to be asleep because of a certain someone's reaction. She lightly punched him. "Be gentle. I'm still sore!"

"Got it!" Twenty thousand words omitted here!

No one knocked on the door again. Wang Yue didn't let Ruan Wan get out of bed and waited on her attentively the whole time. Even Ruan Wan's breakfast was eaten in bed—though by the time they called it breakfast, it was nearly noon.

Looking at Wang Yue, who had once seemed somewhat mysterious and aloof but had suddenly turned so eager to please, Ruan Wan abruptly felt that she had made the right choice last night.

Ruan Wan had been a little drunk last night, but nowhere near as drunk as Wang Yue.

At first, Wang Yue had probably still been fairly sober as he comforted Ruan Wan. Later, he took her hand and started saying all sorts of nonsensical things, most of which she had forgotten.

Ruan Wan vaguely remembered using Wang Yue's phone to call Zhao Shiyong afterward.

Zhao Shiyong had said, "Ruan Ruan, I was wrong. Please forgive me."

Wang Yue had snatched the phone away, and the two of them argued. Neither managed to get the better of the other over the phone. Wang Yue seemed to have said, "We're drunk too. You have to forgive us tomorrow."

All she heard from the phone was an angry voice. "Ruan Ruan, how could you do this? You bitch."

Ruan Wan only remembered flying into a rage out of humiliation herself. For the first time, she said they should break up. Only after saying it did she realize it did not hurt as much as she had imagined.

Then Ruan Wan remembered crying. Wang Yue had actually held her and said, "You have me. I like you."

She also remembered Wang Yue looking at her with deep affection and saying, "Guan Guan, after thirty years of being single, you're the first woman I've wanted to marry. I want to take care of you for the rest of my life."

Guan Guan's heart had already been broken by Zhao Shiyong, and she had long had a favorable impression of Wang Yue after hearing his confession. Then she looked at this man, who could not even remember his own age, and heard him say he wanted to marry her rather than merely be her boyfriend. In that instant of emotion, Wang Yue, ever one to seize an opening, muddleheadedly got his way.
