School Attendance Check-In System

The day after Ruan Wan started work, she told Zhang Xue'er that some parents had been appointing students to class leadership positions in her class. She asked Zhang Xue'er to pay attention to how the children were feeling.

Zhang Xue'er thought this was really bad news. It would seriously affect the children's physical and mental health. But holding another election wouldn't be good, either, and questioning them one by one would be even worse. Wasn't that just making things difficult for the teacher? This year's parents were so hard to handle!

Unable to think of a solution herself, Zhang Xue'er turned to Zhong Yi, who could always cheer her up. Zhong Yi happened to be at Wang Yue's place, and when his phone rang, Wang Yue gestured for him to answer it.

Zhong Yi was pretty sneaky, too. He told Zhang Xue'er to explain to the students that, to help them develop a sense of responsibility for keeping things clean, each child had to make sure the area around them stayed tidy.

Then she could tell the class leaders that they needed to take turns checking the classroom before school in the morning and after school in the evening. Their classmates had voted for them because they liked them, so they couldn't let them down.

Zhang Xue'er was baffled. That would do it?

Zhong Yi explained that after-school tutoring classes usually began not long after school let out. If the students had to check the classroom, they would be a few minutes late to tutoring. For parents who were willing to rig an election, even a few minutes' delay was unacceptable.

Zhang Xue'er still felt that something was off, but she couldn't see how it would negatively affect the students. She decided to find an opportunity to make the announcement.

What she didn't know was that, normally, parents picked up the students as soon as school let out. But parents who rushed over after work couldn't always arrive right on time, so the students would inevitably have to wait a few extra minutes. By then, they wouldn't be just a few minutes late to tutoring.

Wang Yue heard Zhong Yi's lousy idea and not only didn't stop him, he even spitefully whipped up a check-in app. The students just had to salute the camera at the classroom door to check in. It would track when children were dropped off and picked up, and could send notifications to their parents.

While Zhong Yi was busy recruiting teachers for Zhong Yi's Online School, Wang Yue sent him the check-in app. After carefully reading the instructions, Zhong Yi thought, Wang Yue really is a schemer. Still, he forwarded the app to Zhang Xue'er.

Zhang Xue'er didn't dare send it to the parents herself, so she told the principal about the app. The principal was delighted to hear about it. After reading the instructions, he installed it and tried it out. He even asked some computer science students to take a look, but they didn't find any problems. In fact, they praised the app.

After hearing what they had to say, the principal didn't hesitate to implement the student check-in system at Fengfan Middle School.

Tian Yulan was now torn. After her son became deputy class monitor, his grandfather had been so happy that he'd held a family banquet, and it had been quite a lavish affair. She'd been feeling pleased with herself ever since.

But the duties that came with the position had made Yan Ziyou late several times. The top teacher at Zeshi had given her several warnings. Her son was already at the bottom of the top class, and he kept holding up the other students. Starting today, the teacher wouldn't wait for Yan Ziyou anymore and would begin class without him.

Mi Tao had also been late to several online classes because of her class monitor duties. But Zhong Yi knew exactly what was going on. After class, he made a point of having Mi Tao watch the recording. If she didn't understand anything, she could ask him, and he'd answer as soon as he was online. Smart as she was, Mi Tao understood the lessons just fine by following the videos, so she rarely bothered Zhong Yi.

Yan Ziyou's situation was much more troublesome. He'd gotten into the class by displacing a student assigned there by the top teacher. The teacher treated everyone fairly during class, but left as soon as it ended. There was no teacher around to answer Yan Ziyou's questions.

Although they were elementary school problems, some of those Olympiad Math questions were beyond Tian Yulan and her husband. And even if they could solve one, they couldn't necessarily teach it to Yan Ziyou. Every time Tian Yulan spent ages explaining, only to see her son's bewildered expression, she became furious.

What made Tian Yulan even angrier was that Yan Ziyou had scored only 89 on another test. He'd spent so much time on Olympiad Math that he'd slacked off on the regular lessons in that unit, which was why his grades had slipped.

But that wasn't the main issue. The main issue was Xia Huanhuan's score. She'd gotten 97 this time, and it was only because she'd been careless. Looking at the question she'd gotten wrong, Xia Huanhuan thought indignantly, If only I could take the test again! That isn't my real score! Dad had said she could have a little rabbit if she got full marks. Then she and Yuan Yuan could each take care of one.

Nan Jianlong had been troubled lately, too. The battle between his biological daughter and stepdaughter, along with his wife's tearful complaints, had forced him to call everyone together again.

Like most parents, he just told his daughter to give in a little. Nan Jianlong spoke to Nan Li first, but all he did was make her even angrier.

What troubled Nan Jianlong even more was that Yan Ziyou had revealed that his grandfather had arranged for him to join the top class. Now not only was Nan Li unhappy, but Xia Huanhuan was, too. After all, Yan Ziyou had taken her place as class monitor.

Nan Li took her daughter and son home, while Nan Jianlong was so angry that he fell ill. With his biological daughter away and his stepdaughter gone, only his second wife was left to look after him.

Everyone had to pay for their actions. He and the Eldest Princess could easily afford to hire a live-in caretaker; he hadn't needed to replace his wife. But the damage was done, and now he was being well cared for. He was just worried that his biological daughter would stop speaking to him and that his grandson would no longer be close to him.

The next day, he went to see Nan Li despite being ill. But as he passed Wang Yue's garden, he saw two adults and four children happily playing there. Though he was sick, he recognized Huan Huan and Chao Chao at once.

Wang Yue was playing ball with Xia Junshan and the children. As if sensing something, he glanced over and spotted "Teacher Zhang"—or rather, Nan Jianlong.

"Dean Nan, would you like to come sit for a while?" Wang Yue stopped and greeted him.

Nan Jianlong recognized Wang Yue and knew he was a rising star at the hospital. He was about to take him up on the offer, but when he saw Huan Huan and Chao Chao acting as if they hadn't noticed him, he didn't dare go over. He was afraid of embarrassing himself in front of Wang Yue.

"No, I came to see Nan Li about something." Nan Jianlong shook his head.

"Dad, Nan Li's home. You can go over. I've got to keep an eye on the two kids here!" Xia Junshan knew that some things could only be settled between father and daughter, so he gave the old man an easy out. "I'll watch Huan Huan and Chao Chao while they play."

Nan Jianlong looked back at Huan Huan and Chao Chao every few steps. His heart felt heavy, and his already faltering steps grew even slower.

"Looks like the old man has run into some trouble. If he added, 'You wait here, I'll go buy you some oranges,' it would really set the mood!" Wang Yue sighed, watching Nan Jianlong's shuffling figure.

"If you left out the second half, you'd sound more like a human being!" Xia Junshan said, utterly speechless. Was this really the time for jokes?

"I was just reminding you that when a child wants to care for their parents, it may be too late. Parents are role models for their children." Wang Yue gave Xia Junshan a pointed look.

"You're right." Xia Junshan understood what Wang Yue meant. His relationship with his father-in-law might be strained, but at least they could still see each other often. His mother, on the other hand, was all alone back in their hometown.
