Background / History

Xiao Yan begins as a member of the Xiao Family whose Dou Qi disappears for three years. During this period, Xiao Long humiliates him, while Xiao Xun'er becomes increasingly distant from him. Xiao Yan responds by dedicating himself to regaining his former strength. 31 44

He learns that the transparent old man within his ring, Yao Chen, had absorbed his Dou Qi during those three years. Though initially furious, Xiao Yan seeks Yao Chen's help after realizing that strength is the only way to recover his status and win Xiao Xun'er back. Yao Chen offers to accept him as a disciple and promises him access to powerful techniques and cultivation resources. 44 45 57

Xiao Yan rapidly recovers, revealing Dou Qi at Seven Stages during the Xiao Family's testing ceremony. His return delights his father, Xiao Zhan, and draws Xiao Mei back to him after she had previously distanced herself. 58 59

At Xiao Xun'er's invitation, Xiao Yan travels into the deepest region of the Monster Forest, expecting reconciliation. Instead, he finds Xiao Long and learns that Xiao Long wants his ring. Xiao Yan temporarily defeats Xiao Long by drawing on Yao Chen's power, but Xiao Xun'er intervenes and reveals herself as a Five-star Dou Emperor. 70 71 72

After Yao Chen joins Xiao Long's faction, Xiao Yan offers to become Xiao Long's subordinate in exchange for Xiao Xun'er. The offer is rejected, and Xiao Xun'er severely injures him.
