She nodded, "Indeed, good food is not to be missed."
Zhao Bai paid no mind to what Miss Chen was thinking. He grabbed the over a thousand yuan he'd just earned and pondered what new ingredients to buy. He hopped on his motorcycle and sped off, disappearing into the night.
He'd been in this world for two years now.
From the initial euphoria of discovering he possessed the entire Honkai weapon arsenal, to the shock of realizing it could only be used on ingredients, Zhao Bai had weathered the emotional rollercoaster. He had moved on, dedicating himself to being a chef.
Of course, Zhao Bai had participated in the St. Freya Academy entrance exams. He studied at the Far East Branch as a reserve male Valkyrie, working and studying part-time. In addition to that, he had opened a restaurant within St. Freya Academy.
As for discovering that his cooking could cure Honkai and heal suicide soldiers, that was entirely an unexpected bonus.
Chapter 2: Living with Theresa
A person's identity is complex and cannot be summarized in a sentence or two.
Zhao Bai was such a person. In his past life, he was a food enthusiast who had studied various Chinese cuisines and researched Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Italian dishes. He was also a Captain.
He was passionate about recreating the bizarre dishes from Chūka Ichiban! and Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, never imagining he would transmigrate.
But sometimes, the world is just that strange.
How Zhao Bai transmigrated was no longer important, nor was who he was in his past life. He just wanted to quietly be a food lover and, incidentally, save those girls who were about to be consumed by Honkai.
The motorcycle soared through the sky, gradually ascending into the clouds and heading towards the Far East.
Crossing the dark ocean, St. Freya Academy was eerily silent under the night sky. Zhao Bai's motorcycle entered St. Freya's airspace as if no one were there, without triggering any alarms.
This was highly unusual. St. Freya was Schicksal's Far East Branch, a place for nurturing young talent, with a security level even higher than the Pentagon.
Yet Zhao Bai had just flown in, as if in an empty realm.
The origin of everything stemmed from the sordid deal between Zhao Bai and the Director, Theresa Apocalypse.
He had honestly reported that his cooking could cure Honkai, which garnered the Director's attention. After witnessing that Zhao Bai's meals could indeed cure suicide soldiers, the Director moved in with him.
There were no experiments conducted on Zhao Bai, nor any summons from headquarters.
It was just that his home now had an extra freeloading occupant.
At times, Zhao Bai even suspected the Director wasn't taking the matter seriously at all, and simply wanted free meals. The issue was thus put on hold. Fortunately, the Director's palate was easily satisfied, so Zhao Bai didn't feel much trouble.
He quietly opened the door, drawn by the cacophony of gunfire. The living room TV flickered, and Theresa, clad in pajamas, held a controller, engrossed in playing Doom Slayer, a hardcore FPS game.
Of course, Theresa wasn't a hardcore gamer, otherwise she wouldn't be playing an FPS with a controller.
Her playstyle wasn't hardcore either. She lay back on the sofa, eyes half-closed, her nightgown rucked up to her backside. One leg was propped on the sofa, the other dangling towards the floor, her fair, small feet tapping lightly on the ground – a sight both seductive and illicit.
The house was somewhat messy.
There were few males at St. Freya, and Zhao Bai was fortunate to have his own single dormitory. Until Theresa showed up, he had been quietly researching cooking alone.
However, the Director didn't conduct any routine checks, not even the most basic blood draw. She moved in with Zhao Bai, ate for free, and played games, while Zhao Bai acted like a male servant, at the Director's beck and call.
Was it enjoyable? Well, it was somewhat enjoyable.
After all, she was the Director, the eternally twelve-year-old Director. Just hearing her voice was a pleasure.
But for a twelve-year-old child to play Doom Slayer seemed a bit too early.
