A very heavy sound, indeed like footsteps.

But there was something subtly wrong.

Bronya, a Russian and a firm materialist, never believed in ghosts or spirits.

Her Heavy Cannon Rabbit followed her, floating and wandering through the vast warehouse.

She searched diligently but found nothing.

As Bronya began her patrol, Zhao Bai also started his investigation. He first walked to the door, turned on all the lights to their brightest, and then unhurriedly began to survey the area.

He turned on the bright lights not out of fear, but to avoid tripping.

This was a chemical warehouse, and any firearm could cause significant casualties. Bronya only brought a vacuum cleaner, and Zhao Bai carried only a common katana.

From one corridor to another.

He found nothing.

Zhao Bai could still hear that peculiar sound, like war drums beating in his ears.

Yet, he couldn't pinpoint its source. He even pressed his ear against the wall of a chemical barrel, listening to the echoes of the sound in the liquid, confirming it wasn't his imagination.

"Bronya, did you find anything?"

"No."

The sound of the vacuum cleaner starting, Bronya was expressionlessly playing with the vacuum cleaner, turning it on and off, her light gray twin pigtails swaying in the wind.

Her facial expression remained unchanged, but Zhao Bai knew Bronya was disappointed.

The reason, he guessed, was the absence of a pale blue, translucent ghost screaming as it was sucked into the isolation chamber by her Golden Herrscher Rabbit vacuum cleaner.

"So, there really are no ghosts."

Bronya said, her expressionless face uttering an incredibly cute sentence.

That creaking sound still echoed in his ears. Zhao Bai had even pinpointed the location to an empty space in the warehouse, but there was nothing there. Bronya raised her vacuum cleaner and sucked up all the dust from that empty area, still finding nothing.

"This sound... after inspection, it's not footsteps."

Bronya said. Having spent so much time with the Heavy Cannon Rabbit, she was proficient in various mechanical structures. When a robot isn't lubricated for a long time, every movement it makes emits this kind of sound.

So, there's an invisible robot here?

They didn't find anything suspicious until late into the night.

Bronya showed visible disappointment, quietly yawned, and resumed her expressionless demeanor, losing all interest.

Seeing this, Zhao Bai quickly suggested they go home to sleep and fight another day.

"Bronya does not recommend wasting two nights on this matter."
