He strode forward, and the carpet crumpled like paper before tearing apart with dull cracking sounds. It seemed that extreme temperature changes still affected it. Zhao Bai silently followed Seele through the vast orphanage. After a brief silence, he finally spoke:
"When you saw me, you ran away in a panic. Is there something here that you're afraid of?"
Seele fell silent, then nodded with difficulty.
That was probably the nightmare—a terrifying demon imagined by Seele, something that chased and hunted her like a dog.
"Shh—"
Seele made a silencing gesture and whispered, "It only comes out at night, but try to keep your voice down during the day too. I'm worried it'll notice us."
"Who is it?"

Something was slowly advancing through the darkness, and an oppressive atmosphere blanketed the entire place.
