Background / History

Seele survived alone in the Sea of Quantum, anchored to existence by a crescent-shaped red Stigmata on her back. There, a darker will repeatedly urged her to kill anyone who might compete for Bronya’s affection. Seele consistently refused, despite the entity claiming to embody her suppressed desires. 624 626

When Zhao Bai encountered her in the Sea of Quantum, Seele initially attacked through her darker persona but later warned him to flee. Unable to leave the Sea herself, she accepted Zhao Bai’s help in understanding her condition. 625 627

Einstein determined that Seele had become quantized throughout the Abyss: she could exist in both observable and unobservable states, but needed emotional control to transition safely. Zhao Bai entered her Stigmata Space as an anonymous “ordinary person passing by,” helping her confront an orphanage nightmare and teaching her that strangers can offer kindness and that she should voice her desires. 642 649 650 657

After her Stigmata transformed, Seele joined Zhao Bai in confronting Tonatiuh, the Shadow of the Sun Eater. Once Tonatiuh was defeated, she successfully entered reality and chose St. Freya Academy because Bronya was there. 658 660

Appearance

Seele is a small girl whose appearance changes with her Stigmata state and the emergence of her second personality. In the Sea of Quantum, she wears a white pleated skirt lined in lake blue, with much of her back exposed around her survival-anchor Stigmata. 624

Personality

Seele is quiet, timid, and deeply attached to Bronya. Her experiences in the Sea of Quantum left her fearful of abandonment and skeptical that strangers could help without expecting something in return. Even so, she possesses a firm moral resolve: she refuses to harm others merely to secure Bronya’s affection. 624 650

She habitually doubts herself, often assuming that she lacks talent or has caused trouble. Zhao Bai’s guidance gradually encourages her to acknowledge her own wishes and pursue them rather than immediately suppressing them. 657 727

Black Seele

Black Seele is Seele’s aggressive alternate will, born from Seele’s desire to overcome weakness, helplessness, and loss. She is arrogant, confrontational, and initially dismissive of emotional bonds, but also acts as Seele’s protector. 624 644 726

Despite her hostility, Black Seele shields Seele from pain and traumatic memories. During Seele’s drunken mission, Black Seele endured the physical pain of their injuries before allowing Seele’s primary personality to awaken, as the two do not share their senses. 699

Stigmata Transformation and Return

After the Stigmata Space ordeal, Seele’s personalities begin to merge and her Stigmata changes from Twin of the Other Shore to Dream Butterfly of the Illusory Sea. She joins Zhao Bai against Tonatiuh, crosses into reality, and elects to go to St. Freya to reunite with Bronya. 657 658 660

First Mission and Drunken Berserk Episode

Bronya asks Zhao Bai to discreetly supervise Seele’s first mission due to concerns about her mental state. After unknowingly drinking citrus wine, Seele becomes intoxicated, fights with extreme violence, and must be subdued by Zhao Bai. Black Seele later warns him never to give Seele alcohol again. 694 697 698 699

Taixu Sword Qi Training

Following the mission, Zhao Bai seeks a method to stabilize Seele’s mind and begins teaching her and Black Seele Taixu Sword Qi. The training gives both personalities a shared path toward emotional control and greater combat skill. 722 725 727
