"Don't worry, I locked them up. While we have the chance, let's get out of here!"
Zhao Bai's voice rose noticeably, carrying a faint urgency. Seele nodded, climbed out of the empty trash can, rubbed her numb calves, and immediately fled with Zhao Bai.
"May I ask your name?"
"There's no need, is there? Didn't I tell you? I'm just a passerby. I happened to see how pitiful you were, so I lent you a hand. There's no unnecessary emotional entanglement between us. If you insist on thanking someone, thank this kind world."
"A kind... world?"
They reached the wall. Seele crouched down and felt her way through the darkness as she crawled. The situation had become dangerous. On the minimap, the Shadow of the Sun Eater had already broken through the blockade and was rushing toward this exit as if it had sensed something.
"You should come out too."
Seele stood up and spoke softly through the wall. She had already escaped the orphanage, but Zhao Bai was still inside.
He stood there silently without bending down.
Zhao Bai looked upward. A countdown had suddenly appeared there, with a two-minute limit. The numbers were blood-red, and in the lower-left corner was a newly issued objective: slaughter the monsters rushing over.
What was going on?
Seele's mind held not only a weak and sensitive side, but also a rather violent one. Faced with monsters that had frightened her, she chose this almost inevitable method—issuing it as a mission and letting someone else help her.
Yet she herself seemed unaware of it.
Seele gently patted the wall, calling for Zhao Bai to crawl out through the narrow opening and leave with her.
He could only turn back and say softly, "I still have work to do."
"What are you talking about?"
