Background / History
The Ōtsutsuki are born on the Ōtsutsuki Homeworld, a barren planet sustained by the clan’s continued investment of power. Each new birth depletes the Homeworld’s energy; Momoshiki was reportedly the last Ōtsutsuki born before its energy became exhausted. The clan is intensely protective of this world and treats betrayal as a crime warranting pursuit by every Ōtsutsuki. 202 313
Their expansion depends on extracting power from other worlds. They plant Divine Trees to drain a planet’s energy and condense it into Chakra Fruits, which can elevate an eater’s life level. The clan also possesses the Alchemy Technique, allowing sufficiently powerful users to refine lifeforms—including other Ōtsutsuki—into Chakra Fruits directly. 99 106 217 220
Kaguya Ōtsutsuki betrayed the clan after arriving in the Ninja World, fearing the consequences of the clan’s planetary harvesting practices. Her defection made the Ninja World a target for investigation and eventual extermination. 99 202 228
Momoshiki, Kinshiki, and Urashiki were among the first known pursuers to approach the Ninja World. Momoshiki sought the secret behind Kaguya’s betrayal and hoped to achieve further transcendence, while Kinshiki acted as his loyal guard and Urashiki pursued his own share of the potential reward. 99 220
After Uchiha Siming killed Kinshiki and Momoshiki and helped the Land of God produce more than twenty Tenseigan-wielding Six Paths-level fighters, Ōtsutsuki Siming issued a universal extermination order and distributed the Ninja World’s coordinates to the clan. 228
Later Ōtsutsuki arrivals fractured into infighting over Chakra Fruits. Raishiki, Kushiki, Kuroshiki, and other clansmen repeatedly prioritized personal evolution over cooperation, attacking or attempting to consume one another when power was at stake. 330 332 337 338
Uchiha Siming eventually entered the Ōtsutsuki Homeworld, defeated Ōtsutsuki Siming, and absorbed Shibai Ōtsutsuki’s clone, gaining the Authority of Omnipotence. 351 352 355
Society and Practices
Evolution
Evolution is the central value of Ōtsutsuki society. Clan members pursue Chakra Fruits to increase their life level, evolve their dōjutsu, and potentially become a God of Ōtsutsuki. This process has no stated bottleneck beyond obtaining sufficient Chakra Fruits. 99 220 243 340
- A Chakra Fruit may be created by a Divine Tree draining a planet’s energy. 99 217
- The Alchemy Technique can refine powerful lifeforms into Chakra Fruits. 106 220 222
- Stronger Ōtsutsuki produce more potent Chakra Fruits when refined. 222
- The clan’s highest aspiration is the realm of the God of Ōtsutsuki, rather than a title held by only one individual. 313 340
Sacrifice and Hierarchy
Ōtsutsuki hierarchy is rooted in strength and evolutionary potential rather than loyalty. Weaker members may serve as guardians, sacrifices, or nourishment for stronger ones. 218 330 338
- Kinshiki was treated by Momoshiki as a guard and eventual source of power. 218 220
- Momoshiki was willing to kill Urashiki if he interfered with his evolution. 99 220
- Clan members describe their value as either evolving into a God of Ōtsutsuki or becoming nourishment for another. 330
- Even rules against non-consensual consumption are ignored when ambition and opportunity outweigh fear of consequences. 332 337
Planetary Harvesting
The clan regards worlds capable of producing Chakra Fruits as resources. In Uchiha Siming’s view, the Ninja World is valuable to them because it could nurture additional perfect Chakra Fruits. 99
- Divine Trees rapidly absorb chakra in order to produce Chakra Fruits. 217
- Worlds drained by a Divine Tree are reduced to dead stars. 346
- Ōtsutsuki Anshiki destroyed several planets while traveling toward the Ninja World. 314
- Kaguya opposed this practice and allied with Uchiha Siming to resist the clan. 202
Traits and Powers
Dōjutsu
Ōtsutsuki powers vary by bloodline, but their clan is strongly associated with advanced ocular techniques.
- Byakugan — possessed by members such as Kinshiki and linked to Hamura’s lineage. 218 224
- Rinnegan — a versatile Ōtsutsuki dōjutsu; the number of tomoe reflects the user’s dōjutsu power. 221
- Tenseigan — an inherited Six Paths-level power associated with Hamura’s line; it can be transplanted only after overcoming bloodline incompatibility. 205 224 228
- Golden Rinnegan — represents exceptional innate talent and bloodline purity, though it does not guarantee superior combat ability. 221
- Divine Arts / Authorities — evolved god-tier techniques, including Ryushiki’s Existence and Shibai’s Omnipotence. 282 355
Karma and Vessels
Karma allows an Ōtsutsuki to continue through a vessel when facing death. Isshiki relied on a mortal host and intended to reincarnate through Kawaki. 167 229 232
- Karma is a survival and reincarnation mechanism rather than a guarantee of success. 167 232
- Momoshiki failed to find a host for his Karma after the Ninja World was temporarily annihilated. 222
Space-Time Techniques
Several Ōtsutsuki wield space-time abilities, though their forms differ between users.
- Urashiki uses spatial abilities to evade danger and travel. 228
- Isshiki maintains a hidden dimension inaccessible even to other Ōtsutsuki. 229
- Ryushiki can conceal his own existence and the existence of others from detection. 282
- Kushiki uses space folds to evade attacks and flee from combat. 337 342
