The loudspeaker on the car behind them wasn't very good quality. The sound was loud, but distorted. All they could tell was that it was a man's voice.
Lu Xi'an glanced back again and saw a horn on the roof of the car, its wires likely connected to the inside.
It seemed there was only one person in the car. The passenger seat was empty, and no heads seemed to be popping out from the back.
However, Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei didn't rule out the possibility of someone hiding in the passenger seat or the back, ready to ambush them.
Lu Xi'an raised his submachine gun.
"Trading stuff! Got anything to trade?"
"Car parts, food, clothes, anything's fine."
"I've got good stuff here too, want some cigarettes? And cola!"
"Have you ever tried cola, friend? It's got fizz. Take a sip, damn, it's amazing! Drink it and I guarantee you'll be happy and won't want to kill yourself!"
"Same goes for the cigarettes, one puff and you're in heaven!"
"Car up ahead, slow down a bit."
"But I'll say this upfront, don't even think about robbing me. I've got a gun, and I've taken down ten guys by myself!"
The person in the car seemed to be a chatterbox, talking non-stop through the loudspeaker.
Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei ignored him completely and kept their accelerators floored, driving forward.
Then, the other car caught up, pulling alongside Yao Wei's car. The driver rolled down the window and turned his head to grin widely at Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei.
The man had messy long hair, a scruffy beard, and wore sunglasses. Though his clothes were hidden, he seemed to be wearing a long coat that reached past his knees, giving him a rather sharp appearance.
Just as he was about to say something, Lu Xi'an directly raised his submachine gun and rested it on the car window.
The eyes behind the man's sunglasses immediately widened. He exclaimed, "Holy shit!" and slammed on the brakes, vanishing from Lu Xi'an's sight in an instant.
But the car merely fell behind them, showing no intention of leaving. The horn on its roof blared again:
"Bro, wanna trade that gun? I've got an airplane here!"
"..."
Lu Xi'an fell silent for a moment, then complained to Yao Wei, "This guy's full of crap. If his car can fit an airplane, I'll trade him my gun for his car!" Space Treasure, who wouldn't want that!
Yao Wei chuckled and continued driving.
But as she drove, she freed one hand to grip her gun.
She hadn't seen Lu Xi'an shoot before and wasn't entirely confident in his marksmanship.
"Look! My airplane is awesome! It's all cleaned up! Still in the packaging, and I'll even throw in batteries for free. How's that for generous?"
The loudspeaker behind them blared again.
Lu Xi'an turned his head and glanced back through the rear window. He saw a hand sticking out of the driver's side window of the car.
In the hand was a rectangular box, tattered and broken, only half intact. The lower half revealed a cylindrical object with a slight curve, like a cup. The upper half of the box had a drawing of a naked body on it.
He knew what it was then and asked Yao Wei, "You guys call this thing an airplane here?"
Yao Wei glanced at it in the rearview mirror and said, "It says 'airplane' on the box."
"Alright then."
Lu Xi'an then noticed that the remaining half of the box did indeed have the word "airplane" on it.
Below those words, there should have been the word "cup," but it was no longer visible.
He took a closer look and shouted, "Didn't you see it says 'cup' on that thing in your hand? You're trying to sell a 'airplane cup' as an airplane? Are you dreaming? Not buying, get lost!"
"Be careful, don't provoke him."
Yao Wei reminded him.
She remained rational, avoiding any potential conflict.
Lu Xi'an said, "Sorry, I lost my temper for a second. This guy got to me. He doesn't seem like the type to start a fight over nothing."
However, he still held his submachine gun steady, the muzzle pointed slightly backward, ready to fire at any moment.
But the person in the car behind them didn't seem to be angry. After a brief silence, another voice came from the car's loudspeaker:
"Damn! Impressive, big brother, you know other languages?! I've got books in other languages here, wanna see?"
The man retracted his hand and then quickly extended it again, holding a book. It was tattered, its corners curled.
The cover of the book was pitch black, but they could still see a woman in a revealing pose, her body arched.
The woman had long, wavy blonde hair, and on top of the blonde waves were English letters spelling out "Playboy."
Good heavens, where did this guy find these treasures?
There's Playboy in this world too?!
But this world's Playboy looks much more impressive than the one from my past life.
"Big brother, take a look."
"Big brother, good stuff, really all good stuff. In this day and age, these things aren't easy to find."
"Big brother, are you a man or not?"
The horn behind them continued to blare incessantly. The old copy of Playboy fluttered in the wind, like the person in the car was raising a flag.
Yao Wei frowned, feeling annoyed. She wanted to slam on the brakes and ram the sedan with her car's rear.
After all, her car was much sturdier than the sedan; if they collided, the sedan would definitely suffer more damage.
But it wasn't worth it.
"How about I fire a shot? See if I can scare him off?"
Lu Xi'an had given up on talking to this chatterbox.
This guy was a typical clingy leech, always taking advantage of any opening. No matter how rude Lu Xi'an spoke, he'd still climb right up.
Look at him; he was clearly older than Lu Xi'an, yet he was calling him "big brother" repeatedly, more affectionately than he would his own.
However, before Lu Xi'an could fire his gun, gunshots rang out from elsewhere.
—Not from behind, but from the front left.
Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei followed the sound. Outside the road to their front left, a car suddenly burst out, heading towards them.
"Haven't seen a single car for ages, and now two show up in one day."
Lu Xi'an's nerves tensed, and he felt his heart pounding.
The horn behind them sounded again: "We're done for! These guys must have chased us from the highway. Deal's off, big brother, we'll talk another time."
The engine roared to life instantly. The sedan that had been behind them suddenly accelerated, overtaking them from the side.
The engine in that sedan must have been modified; it wasn't original.
Lu Xi'an was absolutely certain.
However, as the sedan sped away, the car coming from the front left didn't pursue it. Instead, it headed towards them.
"Bang! Bang!"
Two more gunshots rang out, but the aim wasn't great; they didn't hit Yao Wei's car.
Lu Xi'an felt a slight sense of relief. Good, at least their aim isn't as good as Yao Wei's.
He couldn't afford to hold back. Inside the car, he raised his gun out the window and pulled the trigger towards the car that was almost crashing onto the road from the front left.
"Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang—"
A barrage of firepower, a full half-clip.
The muzzle spat flames continuously, seemingly with a deterrent effect. The car in front suddenly braked and stopped in the middle of the road.
Yao Wei had no choice but to swerve, steering the car off the road.
Seeking all kinds of support.
