After blasting open the gate to District 11, he was greeted by a dense barrage of gunfire.
The Six Eyes could see Nen, so he could tell that most of the people behind the gate didn't have Nen abilities. A few had Nen, but they didn't look particularly strong.
But every one of them was armed.
If he could use Limitless, Su Wu wouldn't have cared. Bullets couldn't touch him while Limitless was active. But he hadn't obtained Limitless or Reverse Cursed Technique yet.
So he had to watch out and dodge. If he took too many hits, he'd die.
"Good. This makes it more fun. I don't like games that are too boring, either." The white-haired, blue-eyed boy raised the corners of his mouth, his smile wild. The markings on his face lent him a hint of wickedness.
The Six Eyes let him track the bullets' trajectories, allowing him to dodge them.
At first, he thought the game of dodging was kind of fun.
But after a while, doing nothing but dodge became tiresome.
If he didn't want to keep dodging, then apart from taking the bullets head-on, he had only one other option—
Kill every enemy carrying a gun.
But he needed to wait a little longer.
Almost there. His Cursed Energy hadn't recovered yet.
The white-haired figure moved nimbly through the dense hail of bullets, weaving back and forth through the gunfire without a scratch.
The Six Eyes' three-hundred-and-sixty-degree vision let him dodge attacks from behind.
They were a very useful pair of eyes.
Except... they were exhausting.
The Six Eyes drained his brain more than he'd expected. His head throbbed as if a saw were diligently working away inside his skull.
And then there were the nosebleeds that kept coming and going. Every so often, he had to raise his arm and wipe them away with his sleeve.
So annoying.
He bit his tongue and swallowed the blood welling up. When he tasted its sweet, metallic tang, he realized his Cursed Energy had recovered enough to use. His smile grew even wilder, and he swiftly raised his hand.
"Cang."
"Dismantle."
"Cang."
Without so much as pausing, he launched two attacks in succession. Most of the people attacking him were instantly cut down. Some were caught in Cang's blast and didn't even leave behind intact corpses.
The third attack, however, wasn't meant to hurt anyone. He used Cang to propel himself at high speed.
He broke through the encirclement and charged into District 11.
Then came District 10, District 9, District 8...
His already snow-white skin seemed to grow even paler, and his body was covered in more and more wounds.
His once-white hoodie had been almost completely dyed red.
"Tsk... What a clingy pain in the ass." He looked at the inverted pentagram that had appeared on the back of his hand, his tone annoyed and his expression cold.
It had been carved into him by one of the men he'd killed, right before the man died.
That mark was what allowed them to keep hot on his heels.
He hated having things forced on him by other people.
District 2.
Unlike the districts farther out, its buildings were refined and luxurious, with residences every bit as high-end as those in the outside world.
Inside one of the mansions, people were talking quietly.
"I heard a new ability user appeared in District 13. Caused quite a stir."
"Oh?"
"Apparently, he's already reached District 7, breaking through the gates by force the whole way."
There were thirteen districts in total: the Upper District 3, Middle District 6, and Lower District 4.
District 7 meant he'd already reached the Middle District 6.
"How strong is he?"
"Vulture sent six hundred men after him, but they still couldn't catch him."
"Were they all ability users?"
"No."
Meteor City had a population of over eight million, and the Vulture Gang had more than ten thousand members, seventy percent of them spread throughout the Lower District 4.
As for the Upper District 3... Vulture had no presence there at all.
In the eyes of the people in the Upper District 3, Vulture was nothing but a bunch of nobodies.
"He's making too much of a scene. Tell Vulture to keep a low profile. And... try to recruit that new ability user."
"If he won't listen, kill him. He's caused plenty of trouble, after all." The figure hidden in the darkness spoke with the disdain of a superior for an inferior.
"Understood..."
"Boom—" A thunderous explosion rang out. A beam of light from nowhere had blasted through the building they were in, illuminating the face of the man hidden in the dark.
"...What happened?" The man was stunned for a moment, then flew into a rage. "Who did this?!"
How dare they...
"That new ability user who broke into District 7. He's already reached..."
"District 2." The subordinate in charge of reporting the situation looked into the distance and immediately answered.
In other words, the district they were in.
"Where's the Elder Council?!! The commotion's this big, and those people aren't going to do anything?" The furious man pulled the gun from his waist and raised the barrel, intending to aim it at the so-called new ability user.
But he couldn't even track the other man with his naked eye.
"The Elder Council is already on the way..." the subordinate reported, trembling with fear.
"That bastard's already charged into District 1!" The man raised a hand and pointed viciously in one direction.
The gate leading to District 1 had been blasted apart, just like the building they'd been in moments ago.
"It's been a long time since I've seen a spectacle this big." The man's expression darkened, and he laughed in sheer fury.
The last time someone had been this brazen was more than ten years ago.
It had been a group of young ability users, too, who'd forced their way from the Lower District into the Upper District.
They'd even slaughtered several families in District 3.
But in the end, they hadn't been punished. Instead, they'd become a new force in District 3 that no one dared to provoke.
"This isn't a bad thing, sir," the subordinate carefully reminded him.
"A new, powerful ability user will change the balance of power in Meteor City. Vulture's people chased him all the way from the Lower District to the Upper District. That ability user is strong enough to belong in the Upper District. What right does Vulture have to set foot there?"
"Someone has to take responsibility for this commotion."
Powerful ability users never faced punishment. Instead, the forces in Meteor City would try to recruit them.
As for the weaker Vulture Gang... they'd clearly end up taking the blame.
"You're right. Let's get our people moving." The man nodded, his smile deepening.
Vulture's existence was permitted.
But the Elder Council held the authority to govern it.
Perhaps this time, they could try to claim a bigger piece of the pie.
Meanwhile, at the District 1 entrance.
"So this is District 1..." Su Wu walked right in, observing his surroundings with the Six Eyes.
Ability users stood guard at every passage, yet when Su Wu forced his way through, none of them stopped him.
Even though he'd charged all the way from District 13 to District 1, he hadn't encountered a single ability user who gave him much trouble.
The only ones chasing him had been Vulture's men.
By the time he reached District 5, they'd stopped openly sending large numbers of men after him.
Still, he could feel eyes on him from the shadows, to one degree or another.
His goal had been District 1 from the start, so he'd taken the opportunity to make a straight run for it.
The eyes behind him had followed him the whole way, but no one had made a move.
This was interesting. When would the people lurking in the shadows make their move?
"I still can't find a way out..." Su Wu looked around.
There was almost no garbage in District 1. Instead, there were mostly elegant, luxurious residences. The people passing by were dressed respectably, and even the children ran around openly with toys or food, their smiles bright. They didn't look like they'd ever gone hungry.
At several intersections stood people dressed like priests, apparently keeping order.
It was like night and day compared to the districts he'd passed through.
Come to think of it, should he give the people lurking in the shadows an opening?
With that thought, he stood still and used the Six Eyes to analyze his surroundings. As a result...
Blood dripped from his nose, making it look as if he'd suffered a backlash from his ability.
As if afraid someone might notice that he was struggling, he hurried into a secluded alley.
The moment he stepped inside, shadows fell all around him, and the view grew dark.
Several figures appeared ahead of him and by the alley entrance he'd just come through.
"After making us chase you around for so long, you've finally stopped running?"
"Kid, you killed our people. You should've been ready to get killed in return."
These men were unusually tall and looked like they were Enhancement-types.
"I have no interest in getting killed by trash." Su Wu wiped the blood from his face, his tone brazen.
"Cang." He poured all the Cursed Energy he had left into this attack.
An invisible mass of energy gathered and shot out like a bomb, blasting the men opposite him away in one go.
It carried them through several houses, leaving a deep trench in the ground. At last, they slammed into a building and came to a stop.
The spire of the church several hundred meters away seemed to sway.
When Su Wu emerged from the alley again, he was alone.
"Should I find someone and ask where the exit is?" he muttered to himself.
Come to think of it, he could still feel a few pairs of eyes following him.
"You won't get an answer. The way out isn't in plain sight." A deep male voice rang out.
Su Wu turned. A figure suddenly appeared from the empty air behind him.
It was like teleportation, or perhaps an ability that concealed its user.
"You're willing to come out now." Su Wu's gaze was calm. His large, upturned eyes resembled a cat's, and his expression carried the cool scrutiny of a beast examining its prey.
He'd known from the beginning that someone was following him. The man had been on his trail since District 6, all the way to now.
And, of course, the man wasn't alone.
"Looks like you spotted me a long time ago." The man who had suddenly appeared wore black robes embroidered with inverted crosses. With his blond hair and green eyes, he looked like the sort of priest or pastor one might see in a church.
"Thanks to you, I've gotten to see a show like this again after more than ten years." The man clapped his hands calmly, offering praise.
So he wasn't with Vulture. That made sense. If he'd been, he should've appeared in the alley with the others just now.
Then the other eyes watching him probably didn't belong to Vulture, either.
Were they eyes belonging to other forces in Meteor City?
It seemed the commotion he'd caused really had drawn quite a few people's attention.
The white-haired, blue-eyed boy lowered his brows, revealing a hint of menace.
"Want to know how to get out of here? Don't rush..." The man hadn't finished speaking.
Su Wu stood where he was and, as if bored, lightly drew a line with his index finger.
But the cutting sound and spray of blood he'd expected never came.
The man remained standing right where he was, with only a few new streaks of blood on his body.
Dismantle had undoubtedly hit him, but it hadn't cut him in two.
That meant...
The other man was a skilled Nen user, and he'd kept Nen protecting his body the whole time.
The Dismantle Su Wu could use at present wasn't strong enough to cut through the man easily. It could only break through his defenses.
"You really are an impatient one..." The man looked at the boy opposite him, then lowered his gaze to the new wounds on his body. His vacant eyes showed no expression. Some sort of power seemed to linger in the wounds, continually damaging them. Blood kept flowing, making it hard for them to heal.
He'd felt several invisible slashes land on him.
But he hadn't seen any traces of them, or any conditions for their use.
The boy had simply made a small gesture, and he'd been attacked.
"Looks like you're a pretty capable ability user. You should have some say around here, right?" Su Wu studied him thoughtfully.
The Six Eyes had indeed noticed the presence of aura, but he'd thought it was simply something the man naturally possessed. After all, almost everyone in this world had [aura]. Ordinary people simply didn't know how to use Nen, so their aura leaked out naturally. That was also why ordinary people didn't live as long as Nen users.
Nen was divided into six types: Enhancement, Release, Manipulation, Conjuration, Transmutation, and Specialization.
Nen users could also use the way aura leaked out to disguise themselves as ordinary people. So Su Wu hadn't paid much attention to the aura around people. He'd assumed it was normal. But now, it seemed the man was a Manipulation-type, and the body he was using was probably an ordinary person's. The strange energy in the man's brain had been placed there by someone with Manipulation.
"Come to the church and talk with me," the man continued.
As soon as he finished speaking, he vanished from where he stood. This time, Su Wu couldn't sense the man's aura, either.
It was another highly advanced use of Nen.
This guy wasn't merely pretty capable. He was probably an extremely capable Nen user.
Su Wu stood still and looked into the distance.
The church was the tallest building in District 1. Unlike the somewhat dilapidated buildings in District 13, the church here was elegant and lavish.
