Before Menma returned to Naruto's body, Yakumo naturally noticed that last glance. Feeling guilty, she hurriedly looked away.
In her mental world, Ido curled her lip. "What's there to be afraid of?"
Yakumo snapped irritably, "Isn't this all because of the trouble you caused? Naruto's Inner Demon fought you before and knows you exist. Now that he's reconciled with Naruto, he must have figured out our situation."
Ido looked completely unconcerned. "So what?"
With the "Red Dragon Eye" once again in her possession, Ido was full of confidence. Even if the worst happened and they had to defect, she believed that no one in all of Konoha could stop her and Yakumo, who wielded the "Red Dragon."
The Shinobi World was vast. Aside from the leader, there was no one she feared!
Yakumo, weighed down by worry, sighed. "For now, we can only take things one step at a time!"
Because she had become the Hokage's disciple, her family had risen again because of her. Thinking of the smiles and pride on her parents' and clansmen's faces, she truly did not want to destroy everything.
But she also understood.
Everything she had been given by the leader—whether it was the "Red Dragon Eye" in her eye sockets or the First Hokage cells in her body—had come from him. So when the time came to make a choice, she would firmly choose the person who had appeared in her life on that despairing night when she had nowhere left to turn, igniting hope for her.
After making her choice in her heart, Yakumo instead calmed down. She no longer avoided Naruto's gaze.
Ido smiled. "That's more like it! You care too much about what other people think. We're so strong that other people should be worrying about what we think!"
