Mui's speech lasted about seven to eight minutes, packed with substance and devoid of any repetitive nonsense.
His declaration, "Let's all enjoy campus life together!" in particular, elicited a passionate response from the students on the field, met with a thunderous ovation.
Once the fervent atmosphere had slightly subsided, Mui, the focus of many gazes, slowly turned his head towards Luo Mu at the very edge, a smile appearing on his face. He spread his arms and announced, "Next, I'd like to introduce a new teacher joining our Orange Academy. Let's give them a round of applause to welcome them!"
Clap, clap, clap, clap!
"It's a new teacher!"
"He looks so young, not much older than us, is he?"
"I'm already over fifty, and now I have to welcome a new teacher who could be my grandson."
"I've never seen the Pokémon accompanying him before!"
Prompted by a teacher beside him, Luo Mu calmly strode towards the elevated platform.
Standing beside Mui on the platform, Luo Mu's gaze swept over the crowd below, clearly seeing the facial expressions of every student – a mix of curiosity, indifference, and doubt, but mostly curiosity.
He could also see Nemo excitedly jumping up and waving at him, as well as Pepper, who seemed to be avoiding his gaze, perhaps still feeling guilty about their previous encounter.
With a thousand faces, a thousand expressions, the murmurs and varied emotions of the students below placed no pressure on Luo Mu. Taking the microphone from Mui, Luo Mu found that the commotion below showed no signs of quieting down; instead, it was growing louder.
Perhaps a rookie teacher facing this situation might have panicked. As someone who frequented the internet, Luo Mu had seen countless ways to handle such circumstances.
After a moment's thought, Luo Mu looked at Mui, receiving a "Do as you please" gesture. Luo Mu then bent down, cradled Growlithe in his arms, brought the microphone close to its mouth, and whispered to the wagging Growlithe, "Give us a few barks."
"Woof woof woof woo~~~~~"
Growlithe, unfazed by the crowd, was instead very excited. Its elongated barks, transmitted through the microphone to the speakers, drowned out the clamor with their high decibels.
Luo Mu put Growlithe down and patted its head in praise. Clearing his throat slightly, Luo Mu picked up the microphone and announced loudly, "As the Principal said, starting today, I am a part of Orange Academy, just like all of you."
"To introduce myself, my name is Luo Mu. You can call me Teacher or Teacher Luo Mu. I will be teaching the course on battling. Any students interested in Pokémon battles can sign up for my class."
"In general, I'm a very approachable person, so you can all rest assured."
Luo Mu considered himself more lazy and laid-back in his usual disposition. However, since he had taken on this job from Poppy, he would treat teaching seriously.
The first half of Luo Mu's introduction was perfectly normal, even unremarkable. However, the latter half took a sharp turn.
Luo Mu's gentle smile vanished, his expression turning serious. A commanding aura, emanating from him, swept outwards. A small portion of the students who met his gaze guiltily averted their eyes. "Conversely, if anyone dares to cause trouble in my class, or if I discover any instances of bullying among students, regardless of your family background, you can try and see if it has any effect on me."
Silence fell over the field as Luo Mu finished speaking.
Mui's smile widened, and he began to clap, leading the applause.
However, this time the applause was sparse. The students were clearly stunned by Luo Mu's imposing presence and hadn't quite recovered.
"Hehehe, young people certainly have spirit," Mui continued clapping, thinking to himself, "Perhaps I can mention to the old man later to have young master Ortega choose this teacher's class. I believe the young master will certainly grow from it."
Taro's expression was calm, clapping intermittently, but his heart was a tempest.
Was it a coincidence? Or was it deliberate?
How did Luo Mu, this new teacher at the school, know about, and even emphasize, matters of bullying and harassment!?
With the opening ceremony concluded, most of the Orange Academy students returned to their dorms to rest or gathered in small groups around the campus.
Luo Mu, with Growlithe excitedly trotting beside him after having stolen the spotlight, slowly walked towards the Library. Before heading home, he planned to borrow some specialized books on planting and cultivation.
Just then, Nemo, out of breath from running, blocked his path and called out, "Big brother. Teacher Luo Mu!"
Luo Mu stopped, first noticing Nemo, then the light brown head not far away. He smiled, "Isn't that Nemo? Long time no see."
"Long time no see!" Nemo clenched her fists, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I can't believe you've become a teacher at the school!"
"You were really cool when you were giving your speech just now!"
Nemo felt today might be her lucky day. After a moment's thought, she took out a Poké Ball and presented it to Luo Mu as if offering a treasure, "Teacher, look! I've also received my own starter partner!"
"Oh~ Can you tell me what Pokémon it is?"
Luo Mu's interest was piqued. He had always been curious about who Nemo's starter Pokémon was, the one rumored in the game to have never used its full power.
"Of course!"
Nemo nodded excitedly. She attempted to throw the Poké Ball with a flourish, but her movements were so clumsy that the Poké Ball dropped to the ground midway.
However, this did not prevent the Pokémon inside from appearing.
With a flash of red light, a small, orange electric mouse appeared in the sight of Luo Mu and Growlithe.
Luo Mu raised an eyebrow, surprised. "It's Sprigatito?"
Come to think of it, the appearance of these electric mice in various forms could be seen in almost every generation.
After leaving the Poké Ball, Sprigatito did not wander off. Instead, it first used its small hands to pick up the Poké Ball and hand it back to Nemo, then quickly climbed onto Nemo's shoulder, their relationship appearing to be very close.
It was then that Nemo abruptly revealed her purpose for stopping Luo Mu. Without regard for the onlookers, she bowed and exclaimed, "Teacher, please have a Pokémon battle with me and Sprigatito!"
Luo Mu wasn't particularly surprised. After seeing Nemo's attire, which was different from their first meeting, he had anticipated that the future "Nemo senpai" had already emerged.
Therefore, entirely unsurprised, Luo Mu smiled and said, "Of course. But we'll need a referee."
"A referee?"
Nemo looked troubled. The people she knew well were not around.
Luo Mu patted her shoulder and called out to the distance, "Pepper! How long are you going to keep hiding?"
A note on the setting: Both Pepper and Nemo in this book are ten years old, about to turn eleven. I personally estimate their fully realized forms in the original work to be around 14 or 15 years old. The Star Team was founded a year and a half ago, meaning the bullying within Orange Academy has already progressed to its final stage.
Regarding the academy storyline going forward, other teachers will not be elaborated on extensively. As the plot progresses, there will be a smooth transition to the new teachers and the Principal taking office. I believe you all prefer familiar characters, right?
